I really like the idea of a person owning their own content and then remotely integrating into a social network. Let's keep an eye on what Chris, Will, and Steve are up to.
What would you put in a distributed social network distribution with Drupal?

Aye
I completely agree. My personal opinions on centralised information repositories such as Facebook involve such conspiratorial thoughts as, "surely users might actually want full control of their own content?"
My personal utopian vision of a future web is data storage (MY data) which I permit foreign access to via my/3rd party sites via a universal API. The whole web TWO thing of letting everyone else store your data makes me feel a little sick; I don't really "get" why everyone thought/thinks its a great idea.
So the way I see it, Facebook, Flickr etc are really just ways of spreading "my" content very thinly across the web, and why would I want to do that? If I've missed the point, frankly, I don't care. What people are trying to spread is information and awareness (in return for love and/or dollars), not necessarily the accompanying data.
From a (global) Drupal point of view, I see individuals moving away from 3rd party "data distribution systems" such as Farcebook and using built-in features of Drupal that can be exposed over web services/APIs, under their own control.
I concede that I use GApps, but that's because I'm lazy, it's free, it works, and I can't better it with anything else (yeah, word, M$). There are few other web apps out there that don't make me go, "what's the point, I could build that myself". Given the openness behind the OpenSocial movement, I think my way of thinking may yet come to fruition.
My 2 cents is worth very little in the local currency, however... meh.
