(Slightly) OT: PHP TestFest event, hosted by pingVision
pingVision is hosting a PHP TestFest on May 21st. DBUG members who may be interested are invited to attend. Note: This is not rocket science, but this is definitely a code-centric event.
The purpose of TestFest is to help improve the code coverage of the test suite for the PHP language itself. No experience of phpt tests is required.
For those interested in the Drupal testing effort, this occasion may be of interest as another structured testing system. In fact, as AjK says, "PHPt is much simpler than Simpletest (despite the name) so it's actually a good introduction to testing methodology." We hope to expand upon this and start hosting some sessions on the Drupal testing.
Check out the TestFest site for more information. Join us, and help make PHP a better language upon which to run Drupal. (No doubt we'll be talking Drupal anyway. It's in our blood.)

If you'd like to start
If you'd like to start coming up to speed on the PHP testing effort http://qa.php.net/ is a good starting point.
Sounds good
This sounds good. I plan to try and make it. I do wonder why you guys are pushing for PHP testing rather than hosting an event centered on testing coverage for Drupal 7?. Both are beneficial so it's not a criticism, I'm just curious.
As I write this
Kevin is in Paris, participating in just that. Part of the plan is that we collectively start a distributed network of folks working on the testing. We'll have more on that very soon. This is just a related thing, instigated by AjK, who's involved in the PHP project, too.

Just to confirm....
Just to back up Luura's words, yes, this is an event I'm putting together. May 2008 is PHP's "TestFest" month and I thought that while I'm in Colorado surrounded by so many good PHP coders who could contribute I thought I'd organise an event.
I'd like to add the writing phpt based tests are simpler than writing Simpletests but it's a good way to learn testing methodolgy for those who aren't totally use to writing tests.
As Laura said, Kevin is currently in Paris attending the Drupal Testing Code Sprint to further the Drupal Testing program. We've been working on aspects of this and will post a lot more next week on some of the plans we have for Drupal testing also.
