Admin pages not generating output

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

From time to time certain pages in the admin area cease functioning without any apparent reason. The problem started some months back when I was unable to access the Access Control area. The screen came up blank. In desperation I re-uploaded the core site files and the matter seemed to resolve, but not in any reassuring way! Currently /admin/build/block is doing the same thing - no output at all, a blank screen.
I have run cron and update.php - that has never helped.
Anyone experienced anything similar?

Perhaps a buggy module? Read

Perhaps a buggy module? Read your apache error log file for more info or browse the watchdog logs.

Sounds like WSOD

The White Screen of Death can occur for many reasons, usually a fatal error in PHP. One of the modules you are using may have a bug, for example. Also, you may want to check that you don't have a theme with the same name as a module (see the advice at http://drupal.org/theme-guide/5); in my experience this can lead to WSOD on the block page as the hook names conflict.

You need to gain access to your site error logs, particularly the error log from apache (though there might be something useful in the Drupal logs as well.

It was a buggy module or bad interaction

Thanks for your feedback, folks. I narrowed it down to the adwords module (I think, from memory) which, when disabled, allowed full functionality again.
