It means we can now start adding new features above and beyond the ones that were provided in the old CVS days. In the interest of fostering community involvement and pushing ourselves to ship new stuff regularly, we'll be doing demos every two weeks to show off new features that we're developing for Drupal.org. These demos will be brief (held to 20 minutes) and will provide a tour of what we have working. And the first one is coming right up!
Our first demo will be on Tuesday, April 12th at 3PM EDT / 12PM PDT (16:00 UTC) in which you'll see:
Git service hooks
The illustrious sdboyer will be demoing the first iteration of Git service hooks. These service hooks will allow us to perform actions that react to Git pushes to Drupal.org. Right off the bat this can allow us to more intelligently rebuild tests. In the future it could allow other features like updates to a twitter account or outbound json notifications for an external site ala github. Once we build the infrastructure, it will also be able to support automated coder reviews.
Drupal-powered Git repository viewer
tizzo will be demoing the Drupal based repository that we plan to use to replace Gitweb on drupal.org. The Drupal-based repository viewer will allow tighter integration with the rest of Drupal.org. There is an input filter that allows users to display portions of files or diffs from nodes and comments throughout Drupal.org. This should be a big improvement right from the get-go but will become even more powerful when we have per-issue Git repositories on Drupal.org!
This project can currently be found in a Drupal.org sandbox but is soon to be relocated as the 2.x branch of the repoview module.
