Database Consolidation

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Ok, today I am going to start to consolidate all of these diff. db support tasks into my sandbox for a pre-release and discussion setup. Right now, there are about 5 different, and very good, threads about Oracle and MS-SQL support. However, there is still no central place for everyone to consolidate their code and work on the DB's. This needs to happen so no one goes off and re-invents the wheen. So, today I am going to sift through the threads, integrate as much as the code togather as I can, and commit them to my sandbox.

I personally currently have an Oracle installation and a MS-SQL installation working very well.

From there, I will either:
A) Follow head with the code until it is agreed it is stable, and release as a module
B) Release as a CVS/Head module, so that most everyone can see that there is work being done, and can perhaps comment/help.
C) ... I don't have a C, but these things usually come in 3's (A,B,C), so I had to put it :).

Ok, I'll commet later this evening after I finish.

Import Done

Ok, I have imported the alternate databases into my sandbox. there are 2 folders under the main folder "alternate_databases" (database and includes) that contain the neccessary files.

Note: My sandbox is under: souvent not souvent22.

MSSQL

I checked out your sandbox souvent22, but it looks like the version of the mssql.inc you have has been floating around for a while and is terribly wrong in a few places. The big issue, of course, is adapting the LIMIT queries to work with SQL Server 2000 and 2005 (ideally for backwards compatibility, making it work for 2000 should be the focus). How is your progress thus far? I have a few small updates aside from some LIMIT code I'm still trying to get working if you're interested.

Intrested

Patrick,

I've had my handsfull with the Oracle DB driver, so I am more than interested to any changes and updates you have. :). Perhaps I could give you access to my subversion account to create patches? or create an issue on drupal.org, and submit the patch there.

great news!

This is great that you are driving this port forward.

I would suggest that you follow path B for these as separate modules (one Oracle, one ms-sql). That way they can have issue queues as a main point for discussion.

Regards,
Greg

Interest

RobRoy's picture

I have a client who has MSSQL and IIS as requirements and would be interested in polishing this off.

What about an issue against core to get MS SQL support in there. We can post comments in there and once we get it committed to core (hopefully for D6), contrib modules will follow along just like for Postgres (not all contrib modules even support Postgres yet).

@Souvent22, I'll make a patch for HEAD with your sandbox code and post it at http://drupal.org/node/74308. Sound good?
