I've no doubt there are others thinking this, but have you plans to release EC4 for Drupal 5?

Sorry no. I was trying to do

Sorry no.

I was trying to do this, but I found that there was just too much in Drupal 6 that is going to make my life so much easier such as the formapi, and even views 2 which helping to reduce the code base by so much.

without a whole heap of additional work, and backporting a lot from Drupal 6 it is not really possible.

One example of this is the optional product setting for nodes. So you can turn a node into a product when you want. Under Drupal 5 this was a huge kludge that was hacked in, where as in Drupal 6 this is a much smaller amount of code and is some much cleaner for the user.

Also I am planning to rewrite the checkoutapi to take advantage of the new formapi which is also not going to be possible to backport.

While I fully understand

While I fully understand your reasons for not backporting to D5, I really to feel as though this decision will result in many unhappy users.
I know for a fact that there are users out there that have had to hack ecommerce to make it work in the way they want, and have been unwilling to move to Ubercart for a variety of reasons.

Upgrading to D6 is simply not an option for everyone, which makes me sad to hear that EC4 won't be in D5 :(

Thanks for the response

version 3.5 works great with Drupal 5.x

Great work Gordon & the EC team.

I think you're right to make ec4 for Drupal 6.x.

There have been a lot of improvements with Drupal 6.x recently and I think it's going to reach a point soon where it's well worth upgrading from 5.x. Besides, I find Drupal eCommerce 3.5 works great with Drupal 5.x.

I've been playing around with version 4.x recently and it looks really good. It's so much "lighter" in code than earlier versions. Will report bugs if I find them. Can't wait for the official release.

downloading latest version

Phillip Mc - Sat, 2008-10-25 09:01

Hi Gordon,

Just wondering where the download link is on http://www.drupalecommerce.org for the latest version of ecommerce for testing?

Or does the latest DEV version link on the d.o. ecommerce project page automatically pick up the latest updated modules & files (dated september 28th)?

thanks

phil

Really glad to hear that eCommerce has jumped to Drupal 6. Especially since Drupal 7 should be out around the same time that eCommerce 4 is released. (http://buytaert.net/drupal-7-timeline)
Hopefully, the process of moving eC4 to D7 won't take as long...

Hi, Yes, it am very happy

Hi,

Yes, it am very happy with this, and it is really coming along quite well. The time line that you are referring to, is a bit out of date and ATM they do not have any firm dates for release.

Once v4 has been released I will be starting to port to D7, but this is depends on stuff like Views2 being ported to D7 and a lot of other stuff. But as soon as I do it will be.

Is there any plan to port e-Commerce 3.x for Drupal 6?
