Event type:
Online meeting (eg. IRC meeting)

We're having a informal planning session regarding the short term and long terms goals for what could be a new site/profile for the Drupal Dojo and how project ties into the larger goals of growing the Drupal project, community, and economy.

Discussion points may include -

  • Desired outcomes for the new website, associated deliverables, and the Dojo itself (what are the Dojos requirements)
  • Potential use cases for the website and major components (Repository for learning materials, Virtual classroom and collaboration space, Patterns)
  • Requirement Gathering
  • Defining a development process
  • Who is involved and roles we still need to fill
  • How to asses times for tasks and to break up the work
  • Incentives to ensure the project is complete
  • Approaches to running Virtual Teams
  • Interfacing with the Drupal Dojo, related learning groups, and the community
  • How to document the development process and create learning materials from the experience

We'll converse in the #drupal-dojo irc room and may also jump on Dimdim (http://www.dimdim.com/)

Meeting notes

A few random notes from our relatively impromptu discussion -

Being that this event was posted a few hours before the meeting, it was great to see so many people jump aboard. Apologies for losing some people when we decided to give Dimdim another test. Here are transcripts for both #drupal-dojo and Dimdim (a bit out of context since we were also voicechatting) -

Attendees -

Covered priority features -

Who could do what/roles still to fill -

  • Blake - lead dev
  • ChrisB - setup/configuration (no development); 5-10 hours/wk up front and a few hours per week after that
  • Trever - theming
  • Gus - setup/config; organizing; interfacing w/ Drupal, service providers, companies, producing Dojo sessions, etc.
  • Would be great to have a dedicated technical project manager

Incentive and sustainability

  • development leads/mentors are donating time, but we are exploring collaborative funding for completed work - http://www.fossfactory.org/
  • lots of non-monetary/monetary incentives for apprentices
  • separate sponsorship tied to lessons and production of learning materials

Contributing back?

  • will this be the next Dojo site - how will that be decided?
  • how do we ensure innovation makes it back to g.d.o., d.o., handbooks, where ever it will be useful

How to interface with the Dojo, related learning groups, and your local Drupal scene?

  • Dojo workshops/lesson(s) for each major development chunk. Patterns created before or after each lesson
  • Each lead would be a mentor - could explore working w/ apprentices for hands on training
  • Dojo could serve as a bridge between similar sessions at Camps, Cons, local meetups. Coordinate sprints, training sessions, meetups, events, on a local level.

Next steps -

Look forward to hearing additional thoughts/ideas from those who attended and would like to be involved. Thanks to all who were able to participate!!
