Hello chennai drupal freaks,
Its time for us to contribute some code to Drupal project yup. People who have worked with Joomla must be knowing
that is has a manager/interface which allows them to install components/modules/themes in few clicks, but this is not the
case in drupal, you have to search drupal.org/project section with different keyword to find the required module/themes
then you have to manually push the files to site/all/modules via ftp or ssh of course its really a tough thing for lazy site admins.
why dont we i.e chennai drupal team join together and develop a module which allows the user(site admins) to
search install and update the required modules and themes from their site itself they no need to search @
drupal.org/project anymore. The module which we are going to develop(DMTM Drupal Module and Theme Manager) will
ease the work of site admin regarding themes and modules installation. Our module will have list the available modules
and themes available at drupal.org/project section something like "ubuntu synaptic package manager" as show in this link
http://people.ubuntu.com/~mako/docteam/images/synaptic-start.png
On left side there will be a list categories, right side top list of modules available in the selected category and right side bottom will have info(dependency, version etc) about the selected modules when you click install button/menu option selected modules and their dependency will automatically installed/copied to your server /site/module directory. Looks cool isnt it ?. I am looking for your suggestion on this.

Nice thought. But, we should
Nice thought.
But, we should be careful about not re-inventing the wheel. There is already the update_status module, which does a neat job of telling you which modules on your site are out of date.
As for point and click updates, there has already been discussion about this on d.o, although I am unable to locate the issue/posts right now. Joomla's point and click interface for installing and updating modules was looked at as the model, but I think the effort is either languishing or was given up for security reasons.
@ venkat-rk
Thank you for your reply.
Yup you are correct, already such module(discussion too) exists for this purpose its named as drupal installer (http://drupal.org/project/module_installer), the Drupal security team strongly advises users not to install this module.
