We had a great October

We had a great October meetup, lots of new faces. Josh did an excellent presentation on Fusion / Skinr and while we all kind of froze our a**es off (a little problem with the reservation meant we did the meeting outside) I think a good time was had by all.

For November's presentation, we've had a couple of proposals. Feel free to add yours in if you've got one, or do some voting. We can do one long presentation or split up the time into several smaller ones. It'd be good to decide soon so folks have something to look forward to.

  1. Michael has offered to do a presentation on the Batch API, a really handy mechanism for altering a bunch of nodes at once (Michael, please elaborate).

  2. Kelly suggested doing a presentation about integrating Google Analytics with Drupal. He runs a shop that has been certified by Google for Analytic services and knows his stuff.

  3. Cameron has been doing some work with Open Atrium / Aegir, and wouldn't mind sharing what he knows. These are some pretty hot topics in the Drupal world at the moment. He also has a Balsamiq license to give away.

Looking forward to November!

Batch API

Drupal's batch api comes in handy when you have to process a lot of nodes/users/etc. and need to keep your memory usage down and avoid timing out PHP.

And it's amazingly flexible and easy to implement, and provides a great way to munch through several thousand nodes doing some fairly heavy processing...

I recently used the batch api to convert 4500 nodes of content type A into two nodes of content types B and C, totaling 9000 nodes in the end. Fun stuff.

I've been interested in batch API and would love to learn more.

I run a large net based ministry with Drupal and know enough about it to break things...and I need to learn what I can. I'm not free until after 7pm on Tuesday, but would like to come afterwards. Just need to know where.

thanks

Hi Matt, welcome! No problem

Hi Matt, welcome!

No problem coming a little later. You might miss the presentation, but you'll still get to meeting everyone and ask some questions (or tell some of your best 'breaking Drupal' stories).

We do need to decide on a location. The place we have been going has a jazz night that recently moved indoors, so we need a new place. JBrauer has offered his place, but since he just moved in, I'm not sure if we should give him another month before he's hosting a gathering (last month was a pretty big meeting). I'll wait to see what he things, and we can go from there. We can always meet at Rembrant's in a pinch.

Cheers!

We have a nice seminar room at Venga Works in Meridian that is usually available, I can reserve it if you would like.

Hi folks, Since Michael's

Hi folks,

Since Michael's presentation got a vote, he'll be presenting this next week on the Batch API. At the November meeting, let's pick one of the other presentations for December.

Cheers!
