We (Chris Shattuck and I) just had a really good conversation with Kris Klinkhammer from the Drupal Association. We're getting started with the Fiscal Sponsorship program and the credit card should be sent out to us shortly so we can start booking venues, getting the catering set up, etc.
We're still trying to nail down a date. The venue has Oct 19, 20, and 21 available for us, but those are the dates of PNW Drupal Summit this year (in Seattle).
The other dates that we threw around were:
August 3,4,5
August 10,11,12
Oct 5,6,7
Oct 12,13,14
Oct 26,27,28
Dec 7,8,9
Dec 10,11,12
At least one of the remaining weekends in October will likely be the dates of BADcamp this year, and the venue may not have the rooms available in August, so we're kind of down to some weekend in October, or the December dates I listed above. I'd prefer to stay away from October, because three Drupal events on consecutive weekends would be exhausting for attendees. What are your thoughts on the date?
I'm kind of leaning toward Dec 7, 8, and 9.
Next, we need to have a planning meeting - anyone interested in helping with planning DrupalCamp Idaho should attend. If you are interested in coming to that meeting, please fill in your availability time on this Doodle: http://www.doodle.com/z4un7mxzuset543e
I've talked to the Pantheon guys and they've agreed to provide us with free hosting for the Camp website. They are deploying their SSL feature soon, so that will be a prerequisite before we launch the site. I think I remember hearing something about DevCloud offering free accounts for DrupalCamps as well, but I could be wrong. If all else fails, there's always my personal VPS that we could use.
TL;DR:
- We're making progress fairly quickly
- There will be a planning meeting. Please fill in the doodle if you're interested.
- We should have web hosting soon.

+1 for Dec 7, 8 and 9. After looking at the camps last year on http://buildamodule.com/camps, this time appears to have fewer events, the events are not nearby, and it doesn't conflict with holidays.
Good news about Pantheon, thanks for reaching out to them.
I filled in the Doodle, and am leaning towards earlier than later, only because it's a lot easier getting the kids to bed with an extra set of hands. Evenings aren't out of the question, though.

+1 for Dec 7, 8 and 9
I would like to help organize. I have filled in the doodle.
I'll check with the SUB
I'll check with the SUB administration and see if 7,8, and 9 are available.

Also, I'd like to check in on downtown hotels as possible options as well. the SUB has a nice cancellation policy, so should move forward there, but some of the nicest events I've been to have the event in a hotel for short commutes (and thus more attendees earlier) and better late-night activity.
I remember at a BDUG meeting a couple years ago, someone mentioned they had a connect with a hotel venue, but I don't remember who. Anyone have connections they can get info and possibly discounts through?

Late to the party
Hey, sorry to be so late to the party. I've been busy being involved in my kid's school's robotics competition up in Moscow this last weekend.
I'd love to be involved in the planning and execution of DrupalCamp Idaho. I've filled my availability into Doodle.
Nice work getting the ball rolling on this, Cameron. :)
Really like to get involved
I live in Mackay (a.k.a. the middle of nowhere) and it's tough to estimate when the weather will be good enough for me to make it out there. August or October would be better for me weather-wise, but if December is what's decided, I'll make it. I will try my best to make it to planning meetings as I'd love to help, but again because of my living situation I can't fill in the Doodle with my availability as that's just not practical. Keep this group updated though and maybe we can coordinate some things on IRC?
Hey Jacob, I'm sure there
Hey Jacob, I'm sure there will be plenty to help with virtually, so thank you for stepping up!

Sustainability
Sustainability should be a huge goal with Drupal Camp Idaho. We can’t be charging the attendants a bunch or were probably not going to see a great deal of campers. So the whole event needs to cost $0 for attendants, meaning donations and sponsors are of huge importance.
As far as location that’s going to be one of the bigger bills a donated space here would be key, food & drinks are another, and internet access will also be big. If a multiday event, then people will need cheap hotel space, a campsite, or possibly host families to adopt a camper for the night.
I just want to get clarification that by Drupal Camp were talking about is a freeform style get together described here http://drupal.org/node/247972 where often, the sessions are selected on the day of the event by the campers. As opposed to a Drupal Cons where they have many different preselected tracks with bigger name presenters a crossed multiple days.
So in the past Steven's
So in the past Steven's Henager has opened up their facility for similar events for free, Start-Up Weekend being a good example. I can get someone connected with them if you want to pursue that. It wouldn't be a bad location with food and hotels near by. My wife is in hotel sales downtown and I know that in terms of meeting space it would really depend on how many people are attending and whether there will be consecutive tracks.
Hi Andy, Would you be willing
Hi Andy,
Would you be willing to check to see if they would be willing to sponsor something like this? Or, send me or Cameron the contact info for who we would need to talk to?
Thanks!

Great logo
I like the logo. It could also be used for T-shirts.
I like the idea of Stevens Henager as a venue, specially if it is free.
Let me know how I can help once in putting this together.

I've been talking with a number of the folks behind DrupalCamp Phoenix, and they've graciously shared a number of lessons learned, and some of their planning docs with me. I can share all that info with the group when we meet for planning. :)

I went to DC Phoenix and my guess is that we'd expect a similarly-sized event here, so that info would be helpful. :)

Doodle Drupal Camp Planning Meeting
I added my availability to the Doodle Calendar but it won't let me uncheck 1 PM this coming Friday as I have a conflict at that time. Otherwise, my availability is correct. Are we close to having a concensus on the date and time?
Link to Doodle calendar
Can someone post a link to the Doodle calendar?
Thanks
Never mind
That is what happens when you don't read the whole page.

Just in case anyone missed it, we'll be getting together at Rembrandt's today to discuss DrupalCamp Idaho planning at 2pm: http://groups.drupal.org/node/211628

If I were to come somehow, the December timeframe would definitely be ideal. It's far enough away from SANDcamp as well.
