Event type:
User group meeting
Our April meeting is a wholly different approach from previous meetings. A new day (Thursday), a new location (The Poacher's Arms), and a structured presentation. The topic this time around will be theming with Zen, a topic that has come up in all of the previous meeting. Please bring your questions (or your experience) as we discuss how developing custom themes start with Zen can be a great way to develop cross-browser, W3C-valid code for your site.
Also, plan to stick around for some informal discussion afterwards.

Confused!
Hi all.. Message suggests new day, Thursday but the event is showing up on Wednesday?
Thanks
Rob

Good Catch
That'll teach me to do anything that requires me logical thought at the end of the week. Event has been changed to reflect the new date.
Notes
Thanks to everyone who made it out last night. Great to see so many returning faces, and some new faces too. Also, if anyone's looking for a web developer/didgeridoo player, we may have just the candidate for you.
The slides from the presentation are attached, and the reference card for Zen can be found here:

Someone mentioned that our new meeting day conflicts with the Waterloo Region meetings. We can certainly look at moving it to another week, any suggestions?
Thanks for the presentation
Thanks for the presentation last night Martin, that was great and well put together.
Depending on if I'm available I'd be open to doing a session on the top modules for Drupal and how I use them. I don't know if it will be as flashy as your presentation but it could spark some good debate on the best modules. I know for me that was the biggest challenge getting into Drupal, realizing that the modules were a huge part of the system and finding the good ones was bloody hard.

Debate is ideal
No worries about the flash. In any case, we just benefitted form the hard work of the Keynote development team.
I think your topic would be interesting to people with a broad range of Drupal experience, and should spark some lively discussion.
As for timing, I wouldn't mind changing the week of our next meeting to not conflict with the Wateloo group, but my main concern for next month is making sure we're not competing with DrupalCamp Toronto, which I would encourage everyone to attend.
Drupalcamp Toronto
Can't find a firm date for Toronto. Is there one?

Not that I've heard
I put that question to the Toronto Drupal group last week, but haven't heard a response. Must be too preoccupied with all the excitement around World Plone Day. ;-)
I'm a bit surprised given that DrupalCamp Toronto usually runs in May, and normally they'd have registration open by now. Looks like they started the website:

My guess would be that many of the people who are actively involved in the planning and organization of DrupalCamp Toronto were at the recent DrupalCon in Washington, and are in the process of getting caught up.
Thanks Martin
Your explanation of Zen was well done. I am looking forward to the next meeting.

Thanks
Thanks, Rob. As a follow-up to some of the discussion about Zen vs. from-scratch theming, I thought I should also mention that it sounds like some of the basics of Zen will actually be part of the core theming functionality as of Drupal 7. You can hear about it in Angie Byron's presentation about what's coming in D7:
