Getting Started With The Drupal Dojo

Are you wondering how to get the most out of Drupal Dojo lessons? Interested in teaching or producing a screencast yourself? Well you've come to the right place. This page collects our community documentation on how to join or host our live VNC lessons, as well as documentation on creating high quality video screencasts. As always, our IRC channel (#drupal-dojo) is a good resource if you need immediate support.
Giving Back
The Drupal Dojo runs entirely on volunteer effort from community members just like you. We're always looking for people to help out, and you don't need to be a Drupal master to make a vital contribution. If you've got a tip or technique to share, a site to show off, a module to demonstrate, or just feel like letting people see how you make Drupal rock, don't hesitate to step up: contact josh_k or go ahead post your lesson topic.

How to join a live dojo lesson
There are three things you need in order to join an online dojo lesson: two pieces of software, and some time.
- A newer-model, javascript-capable browser. We recommend Safari, IE7, or Opera or Firefox2.
- Teamspeak and a set of speakers or headphones. The audio sometimes streams directly to all participants through an embedded applet in the webpage, but sometimes it doesn't, so being able to log via Teamspeak guarantees you'll get audio.
- A couple of hours and a willingness to ask questions. Seriously, that's it. With the two pieces of software listed above, and a willingness to learn, you will be able to enjoy a peek into the inner workings of Drupal each week.

How To Host a VNC Session (Dojo Style)
This page documents how to host a VNC session as a teacher. For instructions on joining a session as a student are here. Regardless of your platform, you will need a VNC application and a broadband connection to teach. We use a VNC reflector though, so don't worry about your home internet being swamped by viewers: you just need to make a single connection to the lesson server and everyone else will view through there.

Dojo video production requirements
Note that all videos on drupaldojo.com must comply with these guidelines (prospective from February 23, 2008.) We will accept all submitted videos, but submissions that do not comply may be modified by the Dojo to match these requirements if needed. Currently all videos must be uploaded to blip.tv and then will be added to the DrupalDojo.com site. (On the new dd.com site you will be able to upload a video directly through the site.)
There is also a wiki page that has some tips and tricks for making videos.
