Any ideas on when first betas of Commons on D7 will be launched?

Hi, everyone.

I think it's more a question to the Acquia guys. And the question is: are there any terms for Commons on D7?

I know that you have lots of other work to do. But knowing at least approximate dates would give us some information to think about. For example if that's a matter of a month, I think most of us could wait until Commons in D7 appear. And if it will be no closer than 6-8 months - it's absolutely different situation.

I'm not trying to press anyone or put some claims. Commons - is a great product and many thanks to you for creating it for free. And as it is free - I clearly understand that you're not obliged to anyone about it.

But it would help us very very very much in making our decisions to know the possible dates for Commons on D7. So I'd personally be very grateful to anyone who could put some certainty into this question.

Thanks a lot.

First beta roughly early July

I would estimate that we'll have the first Commons 3.x (Drupal 7) betas in early July 2012.

If you'd like to help Commons come out sooner, follow the Commons issue queue and dive in :D. Feel free also to join us in IRC on #drupal-commons.

The Real D7 timing

kriscone's picture

Hi. We are evaluating Drupal vs WordPress/BuddyPress for a social website we are working on. We do not want to get in a situation where we need to figure out how to port over a website from D6 to D7 with Commons.....We like some of the features Drupal and Commons has to offer, but the timing is really NOW when we need this....so, I wanted to get your opinion on realistically, when is the beta of D7 Commons and then when might the release version be ready?

We are new to Drupal, so leaning towards WP given this issue and overall familiarity with WP, but Drupal appears to have some decent stuff in the new D7 platform, and we like what we have seen with Commons under D6.

Thanks for your help.

many many thanks

Update on beta release estimation date

isellakuria's picture

Would it be possible to estimate a beta release date for Drupal Commons 7? Could we expect a release in the next days or should be wait till the end of August or beginning of September?

I'd be grateful if you could provide an estimation on this. I'm planning a new version of our community site and I have to decide whether to stick to Commons v6 or jump to v7. The latter is my preferred option but I have to deliver the new site by the end of August.

I have tried to contribute to v7 launch through the provision of feedback so far but I'm available all through August to contribute through testing, feedback and minor bug fixing as best as I can.

Thanks.

Considering we have only

Considering we have only design prototypes http://groups.drupal.org/node/244663 I think it's no closer than 2 months from now. But that's only my guess.

http://drupal.org/node/1496550 - some dev snapshot has been published. So it seems I was incredibly wrong.
//though I didn't have time yet to look into what's in there.
