There are quite a few local open source groups in Harrisburg, CPLUG, Harrisburg Ruby Brigade. There is a PHP group but I don't think it is going anywhere at the moment. I know of places we can meet to do presentations. Or we can just keep in casual.
I'm going to begin planning a Drupalcamp @ Penn State for some time within the next year. Out at Wisconsin right now and it went amazingly well pairing a local user's group with a university. They often can throw a bit of money at things as well as provide free building space. After that it's just getting there. This group / all from PA are more then welcome to come.
Also, some planning has began for a Drupal user's group / camp in Pittsburgh early next year. PGH / Philly are both probably good groups to see if there's interest in traveling 1/2 way from each to meet.

I went to the last Philly DrupalCamp and still plan on attending those. I would be interested in the Penn State, camp if I can make the times. I would even do a topic if need be. Perhaps Aaron might be able to come and show us his latest work on the media module. I would like to demo the AEgir hosting platform and other change/deployment management techniques currently in development. I am planning on submitting that very talk to the regional Central PA Open Source Conference. http://cposc.org/
Are you planning on doing a weekday or weekend? Please post your updates here as well. I need to figure out how to post this into other groups.
I still want to see a local group if there is any interest. Sort of a get to know your neighbor. Might not be enough interest which is fine too.
Sounds like there's interest for a meet up! Why don't we plan one for some evening this month, maybe before DrupalCamp Philly. For myself, any weeknight would work in general, although I would need 2-3 weeks and time to discuss with my partner to make sure it works with her too.
There's a Group field set that you can open when posting/editing a discussion; it's multiple select, so you can select more than one group.
I didn't see any other posts, I took that as lack of interest. (ed. Oh I see people voted. Nice!)
I am still willing to do some meetups. Weeknights are the only time good for me. Do you have a particular day that works better? I usually like to try and pick a time when other tech meetups are not going on. For example we have:
CPLUG -- Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each Month at 6:30 PM.
Central PA Ruby Brigade -- Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each Month at 6:00 PM.
New Tech Meetup -- This group rotates between three locations, First Monday of each month at 7:00PM
Central PA Web Developers -- Looks like second Thursday of each Month at 7:00PM
I am definitely interested in a meetup. I'm in the Harrisburg area.
Aaron, it was nice meeting you at Drupalcamp Colorado. Didn't realize you were the author of the Drupal Multimedia book. Ack! I just read that a few weeks ago. If there's anything I can do to help out in the planning process, I'm more than willing.
Do you guys just want to meet at Panera the first couple of times? See what kind of people show up and see what people are interested in doing?
I personally like the 1-2 15 minute talks in a classroom then go out for food and beer after words for some socialization. I think with drupal this model works well since there are so many modules that could be reviewed in a short period of time. It is nice to get a survey of what people are using.
There is ITT on the West Shore which I can get class room time at. Meeting at Panera is just a random spot with Internet access. There is one on Union Deposit, or there is on in Camp Hill.
Should we do first Thursday of the Month starting in August? Gives everyone enough time there shouldn't be any conflicts. August 6th.
All of that sounds great to me. However, unfortunately, I'm going to be in Virginia visiting with family the first week of August. I'll mark the other months, recurring first Thursday, on my calendar so I can make sure to attend.
