I just signed up for a learning community through work and the site was organized so much like Commons, I just knew that was what it was built on. But no, it is ELGG.

commons = Drupal-based - but not elgg
hello David,
thx for stepping up the plate. Elgg is different to Drupal.
But you can be happy - Drupal Commons running D 7 will be released within the next few Weeks. At least this is what i have learned within the last 4 weeks. One thing is sure: The whole world and many many Drupalized ppl from all over the planet are waitin for the new version of Drupal-commons -running on D7.
Just have a closer look at the threads - where Many involved ppl, talk about the release and the last steps.
amont the many that are discussin the toping there were some prominent membes:
Mariomaric
Eizra G
lots of Aquiqua-ppl and d evelopers
Just take a quick veiew on the various threads and topics and see that the communiy as itself
great to hear from you
greetings
Unleash & have the best time of you live
drupal is better than elgg
Yes, the commons functionality will be similar to elgg, but with fundamental differences. I've built a project with elgg and the code is difficult to nearly impossible to extend or work with. The communityis also very small. With drupal you can easily plug in modules to change how the site works. Elgg just isn't that flexible.
good day dear crimsondryad -
good day dear crimsondryad - many thanks for sharing the experience.

@unleash: Thx for your kind words. :)
The best way to follow development of Commons on Drupal 7 is meta issue: http://drupal.org/node/1205556
@crimsondryad: wow, thx for your feedback, I checked their web site and instantly was wondering what is all about. ;)
hello dear mariomaric
many many thanks for the head-up and for the hints regarding the best way to follow the devevelopment of Commons on Drupal 7.
in the last few weeks there were several sources of information. It is very very good and helpful to know the main source of information.
Many many thanks for your engaged work and all you do. The broader audience of Drupalers need to know where the information on the development is available.
You do a lot with your kind of tech-evangelization that communicates the good news to the world. Please keep up your great job. We need you and your engaged work.
You are important to the whole community.
@crimsondryad: again - many thx for your feedback!!!

Looking for information
on how to change the term "filter" so that it is more intuitive to members of my commons site? If this is the wrong place to post this, please point me in the correct direction. BTW, new to Drupal.
Thank you for your support and help
String overrides
Hi bodyblueprinter!
I think what you are looking for is http://drupal.org/project/stringoverrides module.
If you have or encounter more question / issues, it would be better to post them (or maybe first search for similar) @ Commons issue queue: http://drupal.org/project/issues/commons
There is also Commons community site: http://commons.acquia.com/
Cheers! :)
Stringoverrides
THANK YOU! This was exactly what I needed, had no idea to look for it this way.
Thanks again.
The Commons community site has not yielded much help over the last year I am afraid. Stopped utilizing once groups got spammed
You are right!
Commons community site isn't of much help..
But, issue queue is just fine and beside maintainers there are couple more people checking it.
Glad I was able to help you. :)
Cya.
Ellg is easy and its mature
Ellg is easy and its mature but lacks many options for commoners. It has about 1500 plugins and themes. Here is a bit of information of interest
