Distinct Comment Permission Settings per Content Type - Anyone?

rockitdp's picture

Ah, comments module. How it keeps us up at night.

So we're trying to find a hack solution in order to:
1) Set Forum Topic create comments permissions to be "authenticated" user
2) Set all other create comments permissions to be "anonymous" user

Any suggestions? Priorities are speed and efficiency vs. "the right way". So maybe a good 'ol display:none ;)

Thanks,
David

Maybe figured something out. We're grabbing the function to load the form in the comment template.

So far so good. Any other suggestions?

I believe the Forum Access

I believe the Forum Access module will do the job for you. I've used it on a couple of sites in the past.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should

This could definitely be accomplished via the theming layer, but that would be a dirty ugly hack. Just say no to logic in the theming layer, even if it's late and you've been drinking.

If you only need to have different rights for forum posts, then Grant's suggestion of Forum Access is the way to go.

If you need to do this for multiple content types, then a small module would be the best way to go.

Cheers,

Bill
