Google Wave development brainstorm

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi,

I got an access to a community wave server (my request is still pending to the Google's one), and my exam period is over, so I have plenty of time to play with my Drupal projects.

I started thinking about the wave module, and I don't really know what can be the best way to integrate it with Drupal. The simple embedding does not worth a module, it is just a simple copy-paste to a node body.

My first idea is to use it as a some sort of WYSIWYG editor. What do you think about it? Do you have better ideas? I am open for everything, even for the most craziest ones :)

Google Wave and Drupal

I think it is natural to think of a Google Wave/Drupal mash in terms of a WYSIWYG editor, but I think we should look at Google Wave more in terms of an open-ended content type (think XML depictions of preference-enabled mime types that utilize cloud web applications for each mime type that is part of the Google Wave open-ended content type) rather than being a text-based object with interesting properties.

Would you like to view the values of all site variables one line at a time while your Drupal code is running on a multisite installation on Vista, using open source Eclipse and Xdebug? Visit http://sites.google.com/site/drupaldebugmultisite/ for details.

Google Wave Sanbox account

Hi,
I am new to Drupal. I have built a number of sites 16 or 17 and have done one multi site install. I am very new to learning CSS and know really nothing about php yet.

I got a Wave sandbox account and am fooling with it now. I do not know how I might contribute but will monitor the discussion here and try yo pitch in.

I agree with Kipp. A "wave"

I agree with Kipp. A "wave" is a piece of content in a lot of ways, as far as we can tell. Maybe you can call it a web 2.0 document, like a word or excel doc, but with advanced networking functionality. We are looking at it for integration with some applications we are developing right now.

For your project, a variety of things come to mind, maybe a node could be a container for a wave? Maybe a node could become a wave? Whatever allows you to maintain the functionality within your drupal site, but still utilize the benefits of drupal.

Another direction to go, maybe just set it up so that you can install a wave server (my understanding is that we will be able to download the server?), and then develop functionality on the drupal side that interacts with the wave server in a way that adds functionality from the drupal site. For example, block integration, views integration, etc.

But overall, I would actually go with something simple at first, something basic to build on. Your first inclination, to build a utility that makes for easy wave embedding may be the way to go (at first). You should be able to turn that out pretty fast with minimal bugginess, get something out, and then build from there with more feedback from the community.

Best to build the airplane while you are flying it, imo...
