I am having a real tough time trying to import rss images over into individual nodes..I CAN do video and kudos to
http://www.drupaltherapy.com/node/34

for some great tutorials..I have tried several suggestions outlined in
http://groups.drupal.org/node/16799

My source is the following http://www.u2start.com/rss/photos/

I have even tried the new feedapi scraper-but I do not know how to set that up.
http://drupal.org/project/feedapi_scraper
Does a step by step walk through exist on how to take an a photo rss feed and build them into individual nodes onto a site much like you can with FEEDAPI and video? Please...I'm dying on this one..

Grab images using Feed Scraper

ademarco's picture

Hi,

I'll show you how to grab images from a feed using Feed Scraper. First of all I was checking the feed you want to extract images from (feed://www.u2start.com/rss/photos/) and I don't see any image in it. For my example I'll use a Flickr feed.

After enabling the necessary modules (I'm using the latest version of them all) here is the step-by-step procedure:

  1. We will map the feed items on the "Story" content type. Make sure to add an "Image" CCK filefield to be able to properly save the images coming from Flickr.

  2. First of all you need to enable the FeedAPI Scraper parser. Edit the "Feed" content type (admin/content/node-type/feed) and in the "Feed API" fieldset activate the Scraper Parser (as secondary):

    Only local images are allowed.

  3. Create a feed node (I've used a Flickr photostream)

    Only local images are allowed.

  4. Now we have to create a scraper in order to extract the image SCR attribute from the field body. Click on "Scrapers" and then on "Add" and fill in the form as shown in the picture (we will apply it on the RSS "description"):

    Only local images are allowed.

  5. To test/edit it click on "List" then on its name ("image" from the example). Once you'll be presented with the edit page you can click on "Scrape" button to check if everything is OK:

    Only local images are allowed.

  6. Now we need to map what we get from the scraper into the "Image" field of "Story" content type:

    Only local images are allowed.

  7. As last thing we just save, refresh and this is the result we get:

    Only local images are allowed.

I hope this was useful.

Bye,

Antonio

Hi,

How do you get the 'Map to Image(filefield)' option? Are you using the patch discussed here [#319538]? what am I missing?

Regards,

Thank you very much

The walk thru was very, very helpful and I was able to replicate the desired results. Thanks so much!

I just want to clarify that I DID NOT add eParse modr-but I have another test site that I think I will give it a try

I have spent the weekend working with FeedAPI,FeedAPI Mapper, Feed Scraper, SimplePie Parser, and mashed with other mods they are really stand out..If your "new" (been fooling with Drupal for about a year now) then you know the fun when things work..These are such great contributions to the Community great job and thanks..Will any of these be introduced into Core?

Why would you want to have them in core?

hi guys. sorry if this is a newb question, but is there a tutorial on how to scrape regular text using the feedapi?
i can't seem to get this to work. like from google or yahoo news?

Hi, Feed Scraper is meant to

Hi,

Feed Scraper is meant to extract content from inside the HTML contained in a feed tag ("description" for instance) which is usually not reachable using XML parsers (i.e. SimplePie). For simple text you could use the standard features of Feed Element Mapper, you can have a look to the video tutorial linked on the module's project page.

thanks for that! is there a

+1 I do want this feature too. Is there are any way to dig into the story, not the teaser? I mean not to scape rss, but original url? Is it possible to make such a change in a module? Thanks.

Maybe it is possible but

flickdrupal's picture

Maybe it is possible-but one meet in the middle approach that I have seen and like and get results from is the use of the Voting APi and comments and services module. Let the orginal content go to the source-let the teaser stay a teaser. The power is the ability to have even teasers be individual nodes and the ability for the reader to comment on the content and rate it. Everybody is happy. While the nytimes is not a drupal site-the comments section and the ability to forward articles and track comments helps track and encourage proliferation.
