On the Munich suburban main line between Pasing and Ostbahnhof (Munich East) is no service (closure of the track) on the first Drupalcon weekend from Friday 17 August 7.30 p.m to Monday 20 August 2012 4 a.m.
Best practice for Drupalcon attendees who will arrive at this first weekend and want to go to Arabellapark / Westin Grand:
Arriving by plane (three choices)
- Lufthansa shuttel bus or
Attenees arriving at Munich Airport should use the Lufthansa Shuttle Bus from Munich Airport (Terminal 2) to Munich Central Station.
From the main train station, take the U4 metro line towards Arabellapark and get off at the terminus station, Arabellapark. Leave the station opposite to the direction of travel and follow the signs for "The Westin Grand München". - S1 train (S-Bahn) or
It's also a good choice to take the S1 from the airport to Munich Central Station.
From the main train station, take the U4 metro line towards Arabellapark and get off at the terminus station, Arabellapark. Leave the station opposite to the direction of travel and follow the signs for "The Westin Grand München". - S8 train (S-Bahn) => better take the shuttle bus or the S1 if it's possible !
If you use the S8 from the airport, change at Ostbahnhof to the U5 metro torwards Laimer Platz and get off at Max-Weber-Platz. At Max-Weber-Platz change to the U4 metro line towards Arabellapark and get off at the terminus station, Arabellapark. Leave the station opposite to the direction of travel and follow the signs for "The Westin Grand München".
Arriving by train
No need to change trains!
From the main train station, take the U4 metro line towards Arabellapark and get off at the terminus station, Arabellapark. Leave the station opposite to the direction of travel and follow the signs for "The Westin Grand München".
No buses
In all this cases you don't need to use the so called SEV buses (SEV: "Schienenersatzverkehr") on your way to Arabellapark / Westin Grand.
Have a good trip and enjoy Munich and the Drupalcon !

Thank you!
I had finally worked this out but the clarification is definitely appreciated :D
Which is faster/cheaper?
I hadn't heard of the Lufthansa shuttel bus.
Which is cheaper the shuttel bus or the S1? And which is faster? :-)

public transport ticket
I've been told that the public transport ticket (Airport-City-Day-Ticket) that is valid from the time of purchase to the next day 4am is 11 € for one person and there is a 20 € "partner" ticket for a group of up to 5 people. This is valid on all public transport lines (subways, buses, trams, etc).

Don't know about the Lufthansa shuttle.
Lufthansa shuttle bus
it's a (private) service from lufthansa and not from the mvv-muenchen. It's comfortable, the bus stop's at the different terminals.
