...who doesn't know all that much about setting up a LAMP on a VPS? I really, really love the possibilities with this module and I have just signed up for my first VPS and have tried to follow the instructions with the help of this groups documentation, but no luck yet. I have been pulling my hair for three days and even asked my hosting company to install DirectAdmin, just grasping for straws. I guess that's the prise I have to pay for using windows all these years! ;)
Comments
YES!
I'm sure there will be many turnkey Aegir based solutions for people like you, who wants to use it, but don't want and don't need to learn all that stuff.
Watch my Twitter updates in the next 24 hours :)

Sounds great...
Suddenly my life has a meaning again ;)
apt-get install aegir
I am building Debian packages for all this that should make it as easy as apt-get install. I have drush that's heading for Debian unstable and Aegir-provision is also underway. I still need to work on packaging the frontend, but that's not a priority for me yet as I already have installed aegir and can install it pretty quickly... Here are the issue to track my progress:
frontend
backend (provision)
backend (drush) (done, in the NEW queue)
Oh man that sounds great
Looking forward to it, and I'm sure plenty of others as well. I'm tracking the issues.
Thanks!
But if
even
apt-get install aegiris too difficult for somebody, there is always 100% managed option. I hope we will have a strong competition in this area and finally Drupal will be introduced to many people outside of devs club :)As promised, some news posted on Twitter: http://twitter.com/omega8cc

Really interesting for those
Really interesting for those who's running production environments, where one really need guarantees regarding server uptime etc. At least for me, at this stage, the $80/month is a little to much for having a lab/dev environment.
One question. "...with contributed additional modules available on request"; What modules is included in this price and do I have to pay for additional modules in my repository?
For lab/dev environment
if you don't need that level of security, I mean live replication in another datacenter, or even you prefer to manage entire VPS/server, other options are possible, with lower price of course.
I think some people would be interested in having complete Aegir with Platforms installed on their own VPS, so this offer includes also remote one-time install without further payments unless you need extended or priority support. I will add that option to make it clear.
As to "additional modules available on request" - you will get them at no cost, even after the first free month of support. You are sending us the list of modules you wish to have added and we will take care about the rest. There is no limit on this and no additional payments attached.
Standard Platforms can have more modules and themes available than vanilla version. For example our Ubercart Platform have ready to use modules included in the standard Ubercart and Acquia Drupal, plus:
apply_for_role uc_aac uc_discounts_alt uc_minpercentrate uc_upsellpaypal_recurring uc_affiliate2 uc_excel uc_node_checkout uc_who_bought_what
recommender uc_ajax_cart uc_fee uc_rec uc_wishlist
role_change_notify uc_coupon uc_followup uc_recurring
admin_menu composite false_account itweak_login legal textilecheckbox_validate custom_username_validation flatcomments javascript_aggregator luceneapi transliteration
Other Platforms also includes our standard performance bundle with memcache, cache and boost.
As you can see, even standard Platforms are enhanced with custom set of modules and build on Pressflow core.
But it just starts here. There should be easy "What color do you want?" set of ready to use Platforms like Open Atrium and our upcoming Scalable Blogosphere and also open for custom needs Platforms with a good set of modules as a base to expand in whichever direction.

I think some people would be
This is exactly what I'm looking for really. As for the rest - I think you're really on to something good here, for people like me who's having allot of on-line business ideas but not the necessary technical knowledge to fulfil them.
Aegir on your VPS Install

There's some info about how
There's some info about how to do it on Linode here: (mig5 I believe I read somewhere is developing for Aegir on Linode VPS)
http://www.mig5.net/content/video-installing-aegir-04-alpha5
http://www.linode.com/stackscripts/view/?StackScriptID=203
http://awebfactory.com.ar/node/427
The instructions should work for any Debian VPS.
http://groups.drupal.org/aegir-hosting-system/documentation
I successfully ran this script on a Ubuntu 9.10 server VMware vm
http://drupalcode.org/viewvc/drupal/contributions/profiles/hostmaster/in...
Hope these links help you, I installed Aegir by hand last summer and can say the above script made it really easy. However this project is moving really fast so be careful but it seems to be getting easier.
Yep, I sometimes install up
Yep, I sometimes install up to 10-20 times a day (when testing stuff) on a mix of Linode VPS and RackspaceCloud servers (usually running Debian).
Just copying and pasting commands from the INSTALL.txt.
VPS or dedicated server shouldn't matter. Just as long as you have root/sudo access, and it isn't Windows :)
aegir
I am looking for a few things. 1. the most compatible vps service for drupal-aegir. 2. Simple steps for aegir installation. 3. After installation what are the things generally involved in the vps management like aegir upgradation. 4. Possiblity for easy backing up the sites say 200 from many platforms into my computer or third party backing up service.

If your looking for a cheap
If your looking for a cheap vps just to get yourself started on, I've used burst.net before. I cant comment on whether they are "good" or not, but they are dang cheap and good for messing around/learning.
I posted a video of how to setup a burstnet vps here: http://peterjolson.com/blog/setting-cheap-vps-virtualmin-and-aegir-vps-n...
I reference mig5's video for installing aegir, but I help get you setup w/ the "pre-aegir" install stuff. Also I setup virtualmin, it helps w/ linux newbies or those who don't like the command line.

multisite backup system
Hi anyone has an idea about this?
1. Suppose you have 300 or 1000 drupal sites in aegir in vps. Manually backing up them is very dificult.
2. I am just visualising like this = if we use a third party backup service is it possible to automatically backup these all sites into the third party backup server from my vps of ftp?
3. Anyone already using this? Please tell me which service you are using and the system is operating. Please give details.
thanks
