Collaborative Open Curriculum - Stage 1

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Goal:

To build a flexible syllabus collaboratively to aid educators who want to teach Drupal within formal education. This will be published on an on-going basis from Sept 2012 to Dec 2012.

The first phase is focused on a cohort who are adults in continuing education. We determined it makes sense to start somewhere and then extend or expand this to other cohorts and build out from there.

Strategy

We're not going to write a text book. Materials should be flexible and adaptable for creative teachers to use.

Educators who are teaching to teach in Sept 2012

To join our team, please add your name and link to your Drupal.org profile so we can contact you.

We're looking for southern hemisphere educators to use the same course in classes starting in March 2013 to continue development.

Context for Phase 1

Adult learners.
Continuing education "night class".
Possibly some HTML/CSS experience.
College undergraduates.

@TODO List

Research: Don't reinvent the wheel

  • Interview educators who have taught at college level and review their previous experience. @heather
  • Prepare report and comparison of other programs @heather
  • Gather any reference materials which are shareable @heather

Outline planning

  1. We make a list of all things we want to teach our students within the the course @jens
  2. We find some sort of 'sequence' in all these things for let's say a series of 12 lessons @jens
  3. For each aspect/lesson, we try to find good information/articles/graphics/... and collect those
  4. We think of good case scenario's for the students to learn and test their knowledge on the subject. E.g. when talking about Views we think of some easy, moderate and difficult views that are part of a bigger project.

Authoring DocBook documents

I have started a project for creating and editing simple DocBook documents on Drupal:

Maybe it is useful for developing course materials.
