Kevin Reynen has volunteered some time (and time from his students) to edit ALL of the videos. This is great!

But they would like some advice on what pieces to cut out and how to best edit them. So, now is your chance to specify how you want the video edited. This page is a wiki, so edit it to add your ideas.

General Instructions

I think in all these screencasts, shorter is going to be better. Ruthless editing for length will be the order of the day. Not only to save on d/l bandwitch for some, but to maximize the amount of learning. The screencasts are all evolving as the technology and the teachers find their groove. As you can see, the presentation style differs from week to week. I think it's up to the Reynen Class to figure out how the standard structure should be, and then cram all these screencasts into that "template". Perhaps it should be a news broadcast? Or maybe a picture-in-picture talking head style? Infomercial?

Regardless of the format of these tutorials, there's a lot of technical glitches that need to be cut out of the final product. Re-syncing the VNC, for one. Try to figure out how you can loose the technical glitches from the moment they begin until there's something valid presented in the audio track again. Maybe a still-store of the previous screen that cuts to the next screen with no interruption in visual. That only works if you're not utilizing all the IRC chat text though. I hope you've got a good Pro Tools guru in this class! ;-)

All videos should start/end with the Drupal Video bumper, the address of drupaldojo.com, and the cc-by-sa bumper. Also, some artwork specific to the lesson (as grabbed from drupaldojo.com) would be good as available. Contact squidgy studios if it's not available. There should also be a credits roll that lists the teacher (however they wish to be listed - real name, d.o username or both) and all folks that helped in various roles, following the credits listed on drupaldojo.com (and of course credit for the video editors as well;)).

This one covers three popular contributed modules: views, panels and CCK. It might make sense to try and cut this into three shorter videos.

Suggested Chapters (From Krenyen)
1 Trunks and Branches - 0:00 - 25:15
2 Tools (WinCVS and CLI) - 25:15 - 1:00:15
3 Project nodes on Drupal.org - 1:00:15 - 1:19:00
4 Tools (Eclipse) 1:19:00 - 1:22:24
5 Q&A 1:22:24 - 1:33:55

[senpai] I think the five sections outlined here make good sense. What about subchapter markers? Which begs the question: What format is the final version going to be in?

Any updates on this?
I also thought it'd be useful if we could cut out the IRC screens.

I'm not sure which

I'm not sure which screencast you're talking about specifically, but it seems like it would be difficult to understand what question the speaker is addressing if the chat cannot be seen unless the speaker repeats the question audibly.

good point

Yes - good point webavant. The "update" on this is that we need more, and more specific, editing instructions. Please edit the page with the specific minute numbers and a description of the sections that you think can be cut out of each movie and we'll get these re-edited and posted on drupal.org
