It seems like ages since the last one!
*** New to this?
- It's a casual pub/bar based meetup of primarily people using or interested in Drupal but also with other tech skills and interests.
- If you haven't come to any tech socials before, don't worry nothing is expected of you and everyone is friendly
We tried the mothers ruin last month for the cheaper drinks (if you drink cans of thatchers its £2 all night!). How did everyone find it? I thought it got a bit noisy later on, and the fact it stays open late meant I didn't even think about leaving until midnight (although that's possibly my own - or Simon's fault)
What would everyone like to do this time? Same place based on funds? Previous (the market) place? Something else?
I had hoped we'd talk a bit more about presentations people would do now we have a venue available and how keen people had been at September's meet up. But people were split over two tables, it was noisy and nothing really progressed last month.

I'm away
I enjoyed the last meetup at Mothers Ruin, but I'm away next week so won't be able to make this one.

question
hi ollie, i've meant to ask before. is the company name 'nomensa' some sort of in-joke?
just for a bit
Hi Joe. How's work?
I should be able to come along to this, of course! But just for a bit this month, I have a backlog of promised work I need to churn through, so I may well have to leave after an hour or so, to go to the Bristol Web Folk Hack Night - to work on a couple of Drupal websites!!
Maybe I could remote in for the rest of the evening seeing as I will probably have very topical problems/questions to resolve :D
And for the record, Tom and the Devs from TR were the cause of the 1am cider-sprint last month. I was just a pawn in their game too!! we got attacked by a load of Python(developer)s!! However, despite the appeal of the £2 thatchers, I would suggest maybe we do try another venue. We (well, I) clearly don't have the will power not to just get smashed and shout loudly about debugging techniques in what is otherwise quite a trendy bar. Alternatives in the area that are quieter and bigger would be the fish market, the llandogger, the king bill or even that "new place" out on the castle park edge - the looking glass is it? - though even I've never been there yet.
It looks like October was a busy month (no postings on here at all) so the presentation notion did go cold didn't it :(
I'm In
Hi Guys,
I'm in for the meet up.
I don't mind trying another venue, The llandogger is a cool pub but anywhere is cool with me.
Cheers
.
I'm open to any suggestions about venue if anyone's got any. I'd really like saemus odonnels but unless it's half empty we won't be able to get seats
Work's good Simon thanks. I suddenly know a lots about international data sovereignty law, public sector purchasing procedures and workflow and a host of other stuff. I just hope I haven't squeezed any of the important stuff (javascript, of course) out to make room for the new knowledge!
it'd be good even if you dropped by for a bit - always nice to see you!
i'll give the suggestions until monday evening and then put up a post confirming where we will be. it's alway
Just noticed i never pressed 'save' on this comment before going home on friday. Which means i can reply to Chris too :-) I reckon the llandoger would be fine - shgould be plenty of space on wednesday and able to find a corner thats not too rowdy!
Someone give me a single +1 for llandoger and well decide on that
single +1 for llandoger
single +1 for llandoger
single +1 for llandoger
double post of my single +1 for llandoger
then it's settled :-)
we'll be at the llandoger around 6.
although if you finish work early no harm in going a bit early as some people turn up closer to 5.30 sometimes.
can whoever gets there first try and get a big table, ideally not right by the bar in a quieter bit please?
See you there
Haven't been to one of these for a while, looking forward to beers and Drupal chat!!
ah, wicked
will good to see you rich. and apologies for bursting in on you the other day ;-)
tantalizing
i'm definitely coming now just for some context to that comment
shirt shocker
I'm not wearing the grey chequed shirt, which was on an uninterrupted run of about 6 Drupal meetups. I decided I needed back up my claims that I own more than one outfit.
I think I'd like to discuss super-rapid Drupal deployment techniques with anyone tonight, as I recently set myself a challenge of "doing" a friends (creatively unique) portfolio website in less than 10 hours, and, having consumed about 8 of them, I've basically just a bit of user-admin stuff and theming to do, I'm reasonably impressed. (especially as I think 2 of those 8 hours were probably wasted battling my damnable SVN server)
I would not be surprised to hear that some of you could improve on this massively though, and would be interested in hearing some input - and also a bit more about multisite stuff, as I might as well just have "sites/all/modules" tattooed on my eyelids, and, in the name of rapid deployment could be interested in re-using the same Drupal install to host other portfolios...??
Good fun
Great to catchup and meet some new people last night, feeling slightly beery headed today - hope the food was good over at namaskar.
There was talk of next months meetup involving some kind of meal which I'd defo be up for - is it too early for festive jumpers?
Anyone got any good recommendations for central eateries with good beer?
the only jumpers i own are
the only jumpers i own are festive jumpers :-D
i definitely liked the idea of a meal, maybe 7.30-8.00 ish so people who couldnt make it could still come for a drink first.
ive got some santa hats and party poppers that i actually bought for last years december meat up and never used! (if it's not too early - dec 5th)
ill put some suggestions up later, but think the cheaper end is probably better rather than a posh meal. waddaya think?>
f.cks sake
i just typed this in and it's gone... i often copy while typing but my ctrl-V only has http://www.reggiewatts.com/ in it, doh! ill try again
all mains ~10 quid. have had good group meals at all of them fairly recently. two a little further out of the centre.
any thoughts anyone?
I vote for somewhere
I vote for somewhere reasonably central. Urban Wood looks nice. food is a good plan, much more likely to get me to come down :)
urban wood
went to urban wood just two weeks ago for beckys birthday, its small but nice because of that. i reckon we could have ~20 people eating with their whole back room. its being a wednesday will count in our favour for a chance of booking all tables.
they also have decent drinks there. in particular a wheat beer. a had a burger for 9 quid and it was really good
anyone fancy this ill get in contact and see if it's a possiblilty
urban wood is a nice place
urban wood is a nice place yup. with booking (which would mean a little commitment from attendees) I think we could probably fill it out for a couple of hours yeah!
it's also dead close to The Gryphon, so once we've eaten and been civilised, we can head there, get hammered + listen to metal christmas covers :D
i'm in!
i'm in!
Yup!
I'm up for that - I had a xmas meal at Urban Wood a couple of years ago and it was great (obv not the most current info tho)
Managed to get quite a few of us in the back room and gave us crackers, mince pies etc
they currently have all teh
they currently have all teh space we need on the 5th but we'd need to book fairly soon with it being xmas.
do you reckon it's worth putting a poll up in a new thread for 95% (no one can be 100%) comitment?
Sounds good
Count me in! Better go jumper shopping at the weekend!
