Drupal 8 Mobile readiness in 2012!

Three Cheers to John and team for making tremendous progress on the mobile initiative in the year 2012. Special mention to work done by SebCorbin, nod_ , attiks, JesseBeach & mcjim.

The initiative is towards making Drupal 8 provide out of the box capabilities for mobile solutions. Yes HTML5, responsive design, device capability detection, mobile/desktop switching, front-end performance are already in core Drupal 8. The below details provide an overview of the features already in Drupal 8. The pending features have been listed alongside each of 8 sub item. There is a lot for work happening against items marked as Feature Complete to move them before February 18, 2013 (to hit DrupalCon Sydney).

  2. Make CSS in core smaller & easier to maintain
    @John is writing a draft of the proposed rules for organizing and writing core CSS. Watch out for more details.
  3. Modenizer

  4. Assetic
    FEATURE COMPLETE: #1751602: Use Assetic to package JS and CSS files to help with front end performance and JS/css improvements
  5. Admin Navigation/Toolbar

    FEATURE COMPLETE:The most critical item being #1847198: Refactor toolbar_view and the definition of the array returned by hook_toolbar
