High traffic Drupal Forum example sites?

Anbody know of examples of sites hosting large Forums on Drupal especially Drupal 7?

Granted Drupal may not be the initial first choice for a Forum, but tightly integrated with other aspect of the CMS etc. there are potential advantages.

Besides I am currently looking at a very large forum implemented on a site in Drupal 6. It is struggling but for many reasons not directly related to what it set out to achieve (infrastructure a major culprit).

Any pointers gratefully recieved, I know of lots of high profile sites running Drupal but never had to look for an example of a big forum before.

No, but...

I've used core forum + advanced forum on a drupal 6 site and it was fairly nightmarish, nothing I've read suggests it's any better on 7. It just feels not quite fit for purpose, square peg jammed in a round hole.

We're working on an upgrade of an old vBulletin forum site which includes integrating it with a Drupal site and we've decided to go with a combination of Drupal 7 and Vanilla Forums http://vanillaforums.org/ - the Vanilla code is very clean and extensible (though I haven't quite got my head round it yet - it's all OO - you forget how to do actual programming after a few years Drupaling :D ) and the database is very clear & logical, so it looks like it's going to be relatively easy to integrate the two. Very early days yet but get in touch (or find me or Rosie at the next meetup) if you fancy chatting about it - could be useful for everyone...

Thanks for the vanilla heads up

Vanilla looks interesting.

I have various constraints unfortunately, however vanilla looks interesting to look at offline anyway, not sure that it would help in this case though as out of the box is missing one or two features they already have.

Look forward to finding out how you get on.
