Evaluating for Overnight Website Challenge: Twin Cities 2013

cosmicdreams's picture

Hi everybody, I've been looking into RedHen's progress and there is a lot to like. I love the entity-based approach.

I'm putting together a team of 10 Developers to compete during this year's Overnight Website Challenge in the Twin Cities: http://tc2013.overnightwebsitechallenge.com . We'll have 24 hours to make a website for a local area nonprofit and we're looking to leverage the power of RedHen + Drupal to accomplish that.

Currently, we're in the pre-event planning phase and we're running into some confusion on how to fully use Redhen to our advantage.

Is there someone available that is willing to join our private G+ group and follow our progress and maybe answer a few questions about Redhen?

I'm hoping to deliver a talk about the event and the four previous teams I've been apart of. Even if it isn't selected as a talk, I'll have the slides and materials put together to do a BOF talk. So hopefully, we do well in the event, give the nonprofit an awesome site that furthers their efforts, and we can demonstrate to the rest of the Drupal community how Redhen made that happen.

Fresh Beta

Also, can you make a fresh beta because beta3 doesn't work with the current Entity API and we tend to not want to use dev versions of modules.

happy to help

Great to hear you're considering RedHen for the website challenge, looks like an exciting event! I'm not sure we can dedicate time to joining your private channel, but we can certainly do our best to respond to any issues or general question you may have. You mention you're currently stuck on how to best use RedHen to your advantage. If you want to expand on that, we can take a stab at a response.

Re: a beta, I think it's safe we'll definitely have one before March, although not sure exactly when.

FWIW, we'll be in Minneapolis later in March for NTC, definitely talking about RedHen. Happy to try and connect around that.

When you're in MN

Would you like to give a talk to the Twin Cities Drupal User group? Connect with Barry of Advantage Labs about that.

Also, we'll have until April 2nd to get the site reader for the judges. Do you think we can tag issues that we create on the Redhen issue trackers with OWC and get those resolved before April 2nd?

Using the most recent dev version has things in a workable state but who knows what blockers are out there. It's pretty exciting that we can implement a CRM while staying within Drupal. I did a challenge about a year ago that included Drupal +CiviCRM and it was too complete to deal with under the constraints of the challenge.

NTC Drupal Day

I'd love to give a talk to the user group if the timing works out. If you're involved with the group and can start a discussion, that'd be great.

I just realized I misspoke re: dates. NTC is in April, specifically the week of the 8th. We'll be in town much of that week, and are actually organizing a precon Drupal event, http://www.nten.org/ntc/precon/drupal.

Re: the tag approach, to be honest it'd be simpler for us if you just give me a personal nudge with any blockers and we'll see what we can do. Thanks.

Sounds good

I'll see if I can connect you and Barry about the local Drupal group. We've certainly love to have you present there (we're very informal, no stress).

My calendar tells me our meeting dates in March/April are March 27th and April 24th as we typically meet on the last Thursday of the month.

Registrations

I see there's a lot of work that has gone into Registration (or Entity Registrations) lately. The thing that caught my eye was the reference to a submodule named waitlist.

A common request for using a registration form for an event is having a wait list. So this sounds like a welcomed surprise.

When I tried to use drush to advance registrations from beta3 to dev, drush gave me an error saying the checksum didn't pan out. I'll try again tomorrow but is this something you can fix on your end by publishing a new beta?

patience

Turns out i just needed to be patient. I can grab the dev version with drush now.
