DrupalCampChina 2013 Proposal: Cloud based Drupal services

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Description:

Comparing with same level of stuff, everyone knows Drupal got a harder learning path but doing much more things.

Here is an idea to support other platform like pure source code (Python, PHP, ROR etc) or CMS like thinkPHP, Joomla ... With Service module as an interface, we build Drupal on Cloud and integrate with complex stuff, unlocking small sites / companies to do big stuff.

Possible ideas
1) Content deployment in Enterprise
2) Recommendations (Recommender API)
3) geoIP service
4) Working with AWS ElasticMapReduce
5) Single sign on
...

I would like to do PoC of below use cases
1) Drupal based single sign on solution and comparing it with OpenAM / CAS
2) Drupal to Drupal deployment & submitting blogs to bloggers like wordpress

What do you think ?

Session Objectives

Discussion / case study that what Drupal can work in Cloud as backend to support other technologies

Speaker Experience

Currently in a IT vendor top 100 company Ci&T, worked in 2 enterprise class project as software architect, doing ElasticMapReduce, Cloud solutions and Drupal project for around 2M PV sites
Drupal Team founding in Shanghai 2012 for a 10 people team in fortune 500 company

Experience level: Intermediate or Advanced

AWS ElasticMapReduce

do you have a real world

ahlofan's picture

do you have a real world example of services that you can provide? Usually modules are to make it easier to implement third party services into Drupal such as google map. Are you going to make it even easier for pure PHP to call your API instead of google map api?

Im going to build and host

cloudbull's picture

Im going to build and host applications that usually takes time to build in Drupal locally or hard to build applications on non-Drupal(s).

For example, we have a content staging server to review and revision content, then deploy to our production sites.

Or we sometimes we use third party single sign on solutions like CAS / OpenAM / SAML(s), but it is not easy to setup. We can build it with Drupal as a single sign on backend, put it on cloud and release as a service. Other than non-Drupal single sign on solutions, usually based on Java, we can extend those functions with Drupal modules.

what do you think ?

Could you give a list of AWS

Steven Yeung's picture

Could you give a list of AWS web services that can enhance the overall user experience? Since Drupal in this case becomes a data power house, along with the ElasticMapReduce, what other can you think of? I will suggest the Redshift.

The reason why i introduce

cloudbull's picture

The reason why i introduce EMR with Drupal is that recommender API uses Mahout and Mahout supports EMR. We can increase the computation power with MapReduce. Releasing this kind of service can help someone who want recommendations in their website but dont know such scale of architecture.

For other usage of AWS will depends on application we do. For example, for supporting large data, we will use S3 as well. And most common will be EC2. Or using dynamoDB to work with EMR. There are many possibilities.
