Why not make the good examples for newbies?

Hello!
Let me introduce myself.
My name is Ruslan.
I am from Uzbekistan, Tashkent city.

Newbie in Drupal (and all others CMS) and PHP:)
I want to make the newspaper for my city in local language.

During 3 weeks of searching and reading manuals and howto`s I am unable to make my own newspaper.
I read some new books about this, but it is very-very-very basic information.
So, the question:
Is there any documentation where described the really full information?

Currently I am stop in the Views.
I do not understand how to make the URL like in the newspapers.
I found and configure pathauto module and understand how to configure it.
But now, I need to make the functional like in other newspaper sites:
for example if I type http://www.lenta.ru/2009/08/01 I will see all news for this date.
If I type http://www.lenta.ru/2009/08/ I will see all news for the month.
I understand, I need to use the Views module. But I do not know how actually configure this.
And during long time I see many people ask the same question and no any answer for them.
I understand that I should use Arguments in views, make Page. But in this case I should type in the URL something like mysite.com/something/2009-09-09 for example.
How to replace symbol - to symbol / ?
How to not use additional path before argument?
