Hello Everybody!

I am very new on Drupal (less than 2 weeks), so please forgive me if I sound stupid...

I am trying to build a website where french students could come and train/learn english vocabulary.
I feel that I could use QUIZ to do that but I am very very very very lost...

My aim would be to have the students come on the site, signin, and just train without writing:

1- A question is asked: A french word or expression.
They think about it and answer without writing, just for themselves.

2- The answer is already loaded but hidden.
When they click on a little arrow (a javascript area opens like everywhere in Drupal in the configs - I don't know how to do that???), the answer is given + an MP3 is played with the translation. They can choose to play the MP3 again if they wish.

3- Then, they click on RIGHT or WRONG if they had it right or wrong... and it goes to the next question.

4- At the end of the test, they are given their marks and a résumé of all the questions and answers.

Note:
1-
A good option would be that they could choose to re-enter the process again and again but each time only with the questions/answers that they fail... so at the end they come to know all the vocabulary!
2-
Loading a CSV with question, answer, name_of_mp3_files would be a Dream. Then the mp3_files would just have to be copied on a directory.

It would be a very simple way for classrooms or individual person to have a way to learn vocabulary as well as many other things. Isn't it?

Is there a way I could do that?

Thanks a lot for your help!
Have a nice day!

Dynamic Quiz Questions

Lavatube's picture

I think it'd be good to have the ability for dynamically created quiz questions. Its possible that a views query on an existing external database might be possible to get data for creating such questions. For example, botanists have vast databases of plants and students must identify various attributes of plants. So, perhaps the quiz might display a picture of the plant, and the student fills in several fields identifying the plant's habit, species, reproduction, and so forth. Some of the information might be given to the student in the form of hints, either in the form of immediate information, or requiring the student to request the hint.

Error problems: 6.x-4.x-dev

Feral's picture

Hello,

Well, I am experiencing some problems...
I had to use the 6.x-4.x-dev because I wasn't able it have any of the other version to work correctly on my Drupal6 fresh install.

I created a quiz and put 2 questions in it (True/False questions).
I passed the quiz, everything was OK, them I had that at the end:

==========================
Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'no constructor available for '' question type' in /home/user/webdev/drupal1/sites/all/modules/quiz/question_types/quiz_question/quiz_question.module:521 Stack trace: #0 /home/user/webdev/drupal1/sites/all/modules/quiz/question_types/quiz_question/quiz_question.module(551): _quiz_question_get_instance(false, true) #1 /home/user/webdev/drupal1/sites/all/modules/quiz/question_types/quiz_question/quiz_question.module(666): _quiz_question_response_get_instance(NULL, NULL, NULL) #2 /home/user/webdev/drupal1/sites/all/modules/quiz/quiz.pages.inc(529): quiz_question_report_form() #3 [internal function]: theme_quiz_feedback(Array, true, true) #4 /home/user/webdev/drupal1/includes/theme.inc(617): call_user_func_array('theme_quiz_feed...', Array) #5 /home/user/webdev/drupal1/sites/all/modules/quiz/quiz.pages.inc(465): theme('quiz_feedback', Array, true, true) #6 [internal function]: theme_quiz_take_summary(Object(stdClass), Array, Array, '') #7 /home/user/webdev/drupal1/inclu in /home/user/webdev/drupal1/sites/all/modules/quiz/question_types/quiz_question/quiz_question.module on line 521

Now, I have the same each time I try to go on the quiz page!!!
I cannot run the quize anymore.

At the top of the "Content management" page, I have this:
===========================
* warning: Missing argument 1 for quiz_question_report_form(), called in /home/user/webdev/drupal1/sites/all/modules/quiz/quiz.pages.inc on line 529 and defined in /home/user/webdev/drupal1/sites/all/modules/quiz/question_types/quiz_question/quiz_question.module on line 663.

===========================

NOTE:
I am a bit disappointed by the Drupal Community in general, nobody seems to care when a question is asked.
I asked things in 3 forums, nobody never answered!
Is it me missing something or just drupal-users not interested in helping beginners?

QUESTION:
Is there a tutorial or User's Manual to install QUIZ correctly and run it?
It's been Mission Impossible for me for days!

Thanks

Feral: I don't think quiz can

Feral:
I don't think quiz can provide you with exactly the experience you are seeking. Showing a word or sentence and playing the correct sound when a user clicks a button is not possible at the moment. You need a developer to design software with this as its purpose or search for such software elsewhere.

I don't know why you aren't receiving any help. Probably because everyone has a lot of work to do, and hence don't have the time to take care of issues popping up in the issue lists. Answering in issue list is volunteer, and how much time maintainers and others have available to answer support requests is varying.

I don't know of any quiz install tutorial, and I don't have time the to write such a tutorial at the moment.

We might be able to provide better help if you write what you've already figured out, and where you are stuck.

You should be able to find tutorials on how to install drupal modules in general on google or youtube for instance.

Playing a sound and showing the correct answer when a user clicks a button... -> Showing a word or sentence an playing the correct sound when a user clicks a button...

About 4.x-dev

falcon's picture

The dev versions aren't stable. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. The error you are talking about will be corrected soon, but it might be replaced by new bugs. Next week I expect to release a new feature complete alpha version. It won't be completely stable, but it will work better than the dev versions.

Thanks!

Thanks a lot Falcon for your messages!

It is so good to know that I am not alone, lost in the dark, out in the cold ! ;-)
Well, I totally understand that QUIZ is not tailored for my use but I have no much choice, I have to adapt it or find another way... I cannot afford to have a developper work for me.

It would be such a good thing to have a module giving the possibility to students or just anybody to train themselves to memorise things (vocabulary or anything else...) It would be Memorization-Assisted-By-Computer...

I would have a question:

If I use QUIZ with Right/Wrong questions, can I have several (3) fields loaded as the question?
My idea is to have the question field composed with:
1- The question itself = Field1
2- A hidden group which opens and have inside:
a-An Answer/explaination = Field2
b-A playable sound created with the module mp3player (http://drupal.org/project/mp3player) = Field3

If I can do that... well, I have almost what I would need...

Thanks for your anwser!
Have a nice day!

Creating vocabulary exercise...

falcon's picture

I think you can do this by
- adding a second textarea to the truefalse content type using cck.
- Use this project to make the content of the textarea collabsible: http://drupal.org/project/collapse_text (I have never used this module my self, and I don't know if the collapsible parts of the text will be collapsed by default...)
- Use Audio module, tinyMCE as text editor and maybe also IMCE to insert sound(and a flash sound player) into your new textarea.

I don't know if it will work, but it might be worth a try!

Thanks Falcon!

Thank you my friend for guiding me!
I'll give it a try.
