hi - welcome - are you coming to live/work or just travel? sounds like live/work
community is stronger in some cities that others - pretty sure Wellington and Auckland both have regular meet ups - maybe in Christchurch too.
if you are looking for work you might want to flag that here as you may get some interest ;-)

We have a lovely Drupal community here in Wellington with regular monthly meetups which you would be most welcome to attend, there is also a meetup community in Auckland, although a little smaller.

We haven't decided where to move yet as were still going through the legal processes of migrating and working in your country. But, yes, getting a job as soon as we land there is one of my top priorities.
I did figure that the top 2 most populated cities would be the place for drupal meetups . :)
