Drupal Open Mic Night

This is anyone and everyone's opportunity to give a short 5 - 10 minute presentation on any Drupal-related topic of their choice! Your presentation can be as simple as sharing a Drupal-epiphany you've had or as complex as giving a tutorial for some Drupal-trick you've learned. Remember, even if you feel that you are not a very advanced Drupal user, anything that you can share from your experience will help someone in the group.

There will be a sign-up sheet at the venue where you can volunteer to speak, but if you have an idea for a presentation, please comment on this event and let us know about it! Folks who let us know about their plans to present ahead of time will be added to the itinerary below and will get first-priority on presentation time.

The Night's MC

Julia will be the MC for our Drupal Open Mic Night. This means that Julia will moderate presenters (let them know when their time is up), manage Q&A sessions (keep everyone on topic) and fill in any gaps between presenters with her own information for the group.

I've been spending almost

I've been spending almost literally EVERY waking hour trying to fix this cron problem so I won't be presenting tonight. Plus, I remembered that apparently no PC laptops could connect to wifi at this location last time. If I don't make it out tonight, I'd be interested to know if any PC successfully gets on the wifi at this location.

from barebones linux to CMS system ....

tpb - Mon, 2009-10-26 14:20

If there's interest I can share some Linux HowTo/best practice info for folks
interested in running Drupal CMS on a barebones Debian or Ubuntu system:

  • firewall (iptables) setup
  • safe outgoing mail server & alias setup
  • s/w packaging & CMS installation
  • load monitoring, logging, and capacity planning

Although these topics could be treated in depth, my intent would be to stay
practical and high level, and to keep the preso within a 5-10 minute window.

I'd be interested in someone showing how to run Drupal locally off a jump drive. IF that's even possible.

If there's time, I'd like to get suggestions for improving UNC-Chapel Hill Computing History at http://ibiblio.org/comphist/

I've got it upgraded to Drupal 6 now and think I'm ready to start getting more people to contribute content.

Take a look at http://ibiblio.org/comphist/ now. Thank you very much for suggesting slideshow. It was real easy to do. What took longest was trying to decide how big to make the slides and where to put them. I'm using the Drupal free theme Clean. The right sidebar looks best.
