Managing multiple servers/VPSes with Aegir

I'm writing about the current status of using Aegir to manage Drupal installs across multiple servers/VPSes.

I've followed the documentation to install Aegir 0.4 on one VPS (http://groups.drupal.org/node/25495), and confirmed that I could setup a new site on that VPS. That was a very easy process, so thanks to everyone who is supporting this system.

I'm now interested in going further by managing Drupal sites on a different server. I obtained a clean Debian VPS from my provider and followed the guidelines set out at http://groups.drupal.org/node/21966. Even with modifications to this procedure, I still can't get this to work.

Is this kind of functionality even supported yet? If so, is it possible to get help with setting this up (paid or unpaid)? I'm also willing to contribute time to the project if someone can help me get plugged in.

Thanks in advance,

Ethan

Hi there Ethan,

Multiple server support is Experimental at best: I believe one can create multiple Web servers and possibly provision sites on them, however I don't believe migrations between servers works yet. The only documentation I know of on getting it to work is the one you linked to, so I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out for you.. on the other hand given its experimental nature and that we haven't been focusing on multiserver yet, I'm also not too surprised to hear it didn't work :/

However! :) please have a look at our roadmap for the 0.4 release here:

http://groups.drupal.org/node/29218

Multi-server support is a huge part of where we're heading during 0.4 development and the beginnings of this will really start happening in one or two alpha releases from now. We will definitely welcome your testing, patches, feedback and suggestions for multiserver. It will be one of the biggest features, strengths, and thus probably also one of the more complex parts of Aegir, so we need all the help we can get :)

Thanks!
