It is now possible to show kml files on googlemaps (it also works without the .kml extension)

At the same time, Xmaps is not fully compatible with the lastest API.
Is it then possible to roadmap a way of integrating KML file functionality into the Gmap module and perhaps moving away from Xmaps. What kind of integration could there be with the Kmap module?

GoogleMaps remote KML import goes through Google Cache.
GoogleMapsAPI allows this also... but the feed must already be cached by google to work... even in the API. I know... I tried. I generated a dynamic KML file, and then tried to use the google maps api JS to load that KML file... it came up not found.
I read somewhere that the KML import feature uses google's page cache to load the remote KML file... which is really stupid, in my opinion... a dynamic KML file is what I was going for, and if I , have to wait for google to cache it to show up on my own site... bah.
Instead, I'm gonna use jQuery to pull the KML/xml/whatever data source I end up using. (JSON looks cool.. .easily pass PHP array to JS array) and then just parse through there to add the markers manually.
Perhaps if many GMapsAPI developers lean on google to do LIVE kml additions, they might actually make that happen?
