During the first hour of our January meeting, we introduced ourselves and shared experiences with hosting Drupal sites, solved (or attempted to solve) Drupal challenges (not problems), shared information about a myriad of CMS's, recounted experiences at previous DrupalCamp Colorado's and Drupalcons and much more. We continued to explore the concept of an open workshop, "Introduction to Content Management Systems", for local college computer science and design students and professors. We will finalize plans on this project in our February meeting and we will will share more information here as we firm up contacts and details.
Many thanks to Steve Senator, who demonstrated his new project tracking and billing site. Steve's presentation was fun as it showed what you can do with Drupal after only a couple of months experience.
In February, be sure to bring your Drupal questions and problems to the group. We always like to have a topic that is great for folks who are new to Drupal and one that is more advanced. As we learned about experiences folks had in hacking core (gasp!), I'm hoping Mike Potter might be able to do a quick demo of how you can write a module in lieu of hacking core. We have a number of people who have some great Drupal sites, so if you're new to Drupal, bring your questions and we'll show you how to configure Drupal to get what you need. You might want to even post your request here.
Many thanks for our host, the East Library in Colorado Springs. We are normally in the large conference room; take a hard left when you enter the building. Our regular meetings are on the first Thursday of the month. We'll start socializing at 6:30, and the actual event will begin at 7:00. Our host locks up at 9, so we'll have to be out by then.

Creating a theme from scratch
We've had several discussions about starting a phptemplate theme from scratch and modifying zen to create a new theme. Mike Potter has kindly volunteered to walk through creating a new theme. Don't miss this meeting!

I've got two more "Using Drupal" books from O'Reilly that we will be raffling away to attendees at the February and March meetings.
Many thanks to O'Reilly!
