FilmForge: a drupal installation profile for video communities

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hi all, I just posted this info over at the video group but it's appropriate here too, so apologies for the crosspost: FilmForge is an effort to produce an installation profile / distribution / package of Drupal tailored to the needs of videomaking communities. FilmForge aims to make it as simple as possible to install and run your own video sharing site.

The FilmForge wiki is here: http://wiki.koumbit.net/FilmForge

And the FilmForge demo is here: http://filmforge.koumbit.net.

You'll notice that we still have a ways to go, with some core functionality still not quite working, and a growing list of desired but postponed functionality. Our plan is to get the demo working with all desired core functionality, then use that as the basis for an installation profile and custom theme.

For developers who are interested in helping out, at the moment there is also a running list of To Do items here: http://wiki.koumbit.net/FilmForge/ToDo.

Finally, we were planning on putting together the installation profile here: http://wiki.koumbit.net/FilmForge/DrupalProfile but as you can see we haven't really started, and would greatly welcome help with that process!

Looking forward to working with you all,
schock

Very promising

Your first run at a site/distro looks very promising. Think there's a wide range of uses for something like this. I look forward to testing and drumming up some community interest/involvement.

Thanks for the encouraging words gusaus and steve008. We're just around the corner from a working profile now, but unfortunately hit some snags just before koumbit collective went on vacation for the first couple weeks of august. The profile now almost works out of the box... but there seems to be some problem w/the first test install. However, if you want to help please go ahead and test out the install profile (http://wiki.koumbit.net/FilmForge/DrupalProfile) then let us know if it worked for you - and if not, what the problem is. Thanks! ~~schock

Great Job on this project! I am really excited about the potential for sharing video via this type of a website.

I used the profile and it asked for missing modules. Do I need to download these first before installing drupal?

Thanks. This is my first use of Drupal. I am a recent Joomla convert due to this project, so I am playing catchup with using Drupal.

Thanks for any help,
Chris

same problem

Filmfanatic's picture

I had the same problem. Even though I downloaded all modules and moved them to the "modules" folder, it kept asking me for the "views_bonus" module! Oh, and if you don't know where to get the modules - simply go to the drupal website and type in the names of the modules filmforge asks you for, download them, unzip them, and (i think) move them into the modules folder

A Little Problem for a newbie

Hello everyone!

First of all - the obligatory congrats and virtual handshakes, the demo looks pretty good! Anyway, I've tried to install Filmforge. Did everything that was asked of me as per installation instructions. Finally I began the actual install (didn't get far) by specifying the MySQL Database. Then I clicked proceed. I don't know what I did wrong, but this error keeps coming up:

Warning: Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated; If you would like to pass it by reference, modify the declaration of text_widget(). If you would like to enable call-time pass-by-reference, you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference to true in your INI file. in /home/.trappy/sonndorf/ineedfilms.com/modules/i18n/experimental/ttext.module on line 148

Fatal error: Call to undefined function system_listing() in /home/.trappy/sonndorf/ineedfilms.com/modules/views_bonus/views_bonus.module on line 67

Any idea how to make the WARNING error go away?
and secondly: it kept asking me to install the views_bonus module, which I did again and again and again, and yet it still said that the module was not in the modules folder. What to do?

I know this is a lot, but if anyone could help, I'd be so greatful!

The views_bonus problem, at

The views_bonus problem, at least, should be solved if you apply this patch to your filmforge.profile: http://drupal.org/node/171949

Hopefully that patch will be committed soon..
