Heh, don't blame that can of paint yet, there's an events bug that resets the date to January every time I edit the post. I guess I just forgot to change it back to July - sorry about that! :)

I am probably one of those who are very excited for this lecture.
Forgive the multiple exclamations. I just can't wait to check this out.

Drupal as a framework for DIY Social Networks

gusaus's picture

I came across this overview of various DIY Social Networks

What all of these services have in common is that they provide a bundle of tools for creating a social network - complete with all the 'web 2.0' features you can think of, such as blogs, photo sharing, video sharing, RSS, tags, personal messaging, email, friends lists, discussions, privacy options, etc.

While it may be outside the scope of this lesson, it would interesting to see if/how you could use drupal as a framework to build something as easy to use/more powerful than these solutions.

How can I attend the lesson?

LeonidShamis's picture

Hi,

How can I attend this lesson? Will any notes/article(s)/screencast(s)/recording(s) be published?

Thank you.

I've found the answer...

I think I have found the answer: How to join a live dojo lesson.

Drupal Cache System

Good topic.

I would like to let a suggestion to next lesson or even this. (How social network can improve performance with Drupal cache system)

We could have a lesson about drupal cache system. It is very important. Dont have groups about this subject.

ohh man, i just joined the group, and this cast was probably the main reason i want to use drupal.
are you guys going to post the cast online? i'm not sure if anybody else was as unlucky as me and missed it but i'm sure others might want to see it a few more times. i hope the cast will be available!

A lot of us missed it, as we had frustrating audio issues - but dfletcher managed to persevere and bring the screencast to us. :D You can grab it from the link at the top of this post, or over at drupaldojo.com.

I look forward to hearing your questions! Let me know if there's something I glossed over too much and you want details. Except the tabs. Don't ask ;-) Catch you on IRC.

Thanks for sharing the screencast and the links, I thought it was interesting that you used primarily cck for your user profiles (along with your custom module). Until I saw your screencast I had thought there were only two options to creating profiles (for non-programmers), profile in core and the nodeprofile package with usernode. I hadn't even thought of using logintobbagan to move users forward in registration. Nifty.

Looking forward to your next lesson. Awesome site!

One question, I understand that in drupal 6 the user table will be open to views ( http://groups.drupal.org/node/5233 ). Do you think this will affect how you work with users in future versions of your site?

no audio ?

Hi,

Am I the only one not to get any audio with the screencast?

Thanks
Sean

does anyone still have a copy of this?

Hi,

The download for this screencast doesn't seem to work anymore. Does anyone still have a copy of the file?

Thanks!

Hi,

The domains for the Dojo are "iffy" for months now.

Try this: http://drupaldojo.net/files/screencasts/drupal-dojo_lesson23.mov
worked for me :)
