Just raising awareness about digital distribution options...TuneCore is a music service that claims to charge a one time fee per track or album to get your music on iTunes and other digital distro networks. What seems unique about the service is they say they don't take percentage fees from the sales...that is - what iTunes gives them, they give you. Like all of these services, research their terms and conditions before signing up!

I know Jeff Price at TuneCore, in fact I'll see him this weekend in Tulsa OK. He's a good guy with his heart in the right place. TuneCore is what they say it is... a flat fee service to upload your songs to iTunes and a dozen other distributors such as eMusic, Rhapsody, Napster, etc. and I use them for my CD Giant Chicken.
The fascinating thing to me... is they built their whole site on Ruby on Rails. Just an FYI. -Charlie

One thing they're working on at TuneCore is an XML interface to manufacture and ship physical CDs on demand... that's right, one-at-a-time... as they're ordered from your site for example. I was helping them test it last fall. The pricing made me pause a little bit at the time... but the model is sound.
I currently order my CDs from them in short runs, usually 50 at a time, for about $3 apiece. I've been very pleased with the quality and turn-around time (about a week).
Now we need to integrate into a drupal solution
This looks like a promising solution for labels and musicians who discover it. Seems like an artist would have to decide between a service like this, CD Baby or The Orchard.
If we figure out a way to bake this service(s) in to a Drupal site/profile, it'll be a win-win. Artists wouldn't have to search around (if their website provided them with some options). The services would be more likely be discovered (if embedded into a kick ass artist solution and/or community site).
BTW - I knew your name sounded familiar, Charlie... this product rocks!

Indie Band Manager as a Drupal based subscription service?
I'm rediscovering this thread in doing research for a new client (they're using TuneCore) - noticed that Indie Band Manager is now on Drupal (nice!!) - got me wondering though - will we be seeing a Indie Band Manager as a Drupal based subscription service? That would be a nice compliment to a Drupal based band/musician product!
