Shift scheduling module

Hi. The description of your group says that the first module you're working on is for shift scheduling. I actually developed a similar module recently, and I thought I'd post in case you're interested. It's currently being hosted at http://code.google.com/p/drupal-shift-scheduler/

Shift Scheduler quick video

Was just coming here to post about the shift scheduler module which I first discovered via the video here: http://yadadrop.com/drupal-video/getting-started-drupal-shift-scheduler

I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but looking forward to it. Any plans to put this module on d.o.?

shift scheduler on d.o

Hi Forest. Thanks for your interest.
Someone else opened an issue about moving the project hosting to d.o a while ago. I really like google code, and I will be very sad to leave it, but I've got to admit that hosting on d.o seems like The Right Way To Do It. I'm definitely going to stick with google code through the 6.x.2.0 release (which I expect to finish before May 29th), but if there is still interest in migrating after that, I will definitely consider it.
If you're still interested in the module and hosting things on d.o would make things easier on you, it would be great if you could "vote" in a sense for the move by either commenting on or starring the google code issue.

Thanks for posting

@ mcstrother, big thanks for posting. Scheduling can be a big can of worms, as there are a variety of co-op models that fit different use cases. At my/our store, we're probably in need of some slightly different approaches. We're still documenting our needs, so I'm not going to go into detail just yet, but I will post back to the group when we have something concrete.

Nevertheless, a start-up that's running a buying club or CSA could definitely benefit from what you've put together. Direct, focused tools w/o bells & whistles are very appropriate for startups.. so this is appreciated, and should be helpful to a couple of groups I'm in contact with.

you're weclome!

I'd be very happy to hear if anyone ends up using it for a coop. Most interest and usage has been from EMS services so far.

I just finished and released the full 6.x.2.0 version via the google code site a few days ago--it's been in beta since May--so it might be a good time to check it out if anyone is interested.

Drag and drop calendaring / contexts

Glad to see drupal-shift-scheduler is keeping on, I will definitely be testing it out in the coming weeks.

I just ran across this jQuery plugin w/a drag and drop demo that looks intriguing, though likely eye candy. I'm not enough of a coder to speak to the implementation within a Drupal calendar, but the idea is something that I've seen in proprietary scheduling systems like Rotaboard that could be useful.

One of the difficulties I've had with our DIY system is the lack of appropriate "contexts," that is, I have to drill in to each record and modify their scheduling data, vs. having an empty slate which can be populated from a pool of appropriately detailed and filtered options. Of course drag and drop is just one option.. drupal-shift-scheduler uses a drop-down, and that would be perfectly usable, so long as I'm either not required to make any further judgments on whether the person is suitable for the shift (ala the medic levels in D-S-C), or have sufficient familiarity with the people to make those calls on the fly. My "shift qualifications" are more diverse, so it becomes challenging. Some of these will likely always be ad-hoc knowledge, but some could be listed with a members record.

  • Can lift bags/boxes
  • Prompt
  • Register experience
  • Dry goods receiving experience
  • Produce receiving experience
  • Length of experience (grouped into categories I suppose)

We're slowly creeping towards being able to do some of this, so I'll probably be cooking up mock-ups, trying various solutions out..

Much thanks to mcstrother for your work on the CVS application, I know it can be grueling.

Development of this Module has moved to Drupal.org!

Shift Scheduler for D7 released

http://code.google.com/p/drupal-shift-scheduler/wiki/7x00Release

We're still running as a sandbox project (development page here: http://drupal.org/sandbox/mcstrother/1075572 ) with documentation hosted at Google Code, but that doesn't seem to have stopped us from continuing to grow our user and developer base. Just thought I'd post here in case anyone else is still subscribed and interested.

(Thanks again to nfd for making the previous announcement and for the huge help with issue migration.)
