Core Theme SoC wrap-up

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

It's the last day of SoC, so time to wrap up the first release of the Deco theme.

A lot has changed since my last post. Mainly bug fixing and browser support, but I've also added the following features:

  • Icons: some node links and messages now use icons. I've used the Lullacon icon set of Lullabot, but if you wish to use another icon set you can simply change the url's in the icons.css file.
  • Print support: I've added a print.css file for easy printing. It strips out the sidebars and backgrounds and makes the type darker.
  • Typography improvements: the headers and text are now more balanced and I switched the font of most titles to Gill Sans and Trebuchet. On IE6/7 I tweaked the font sizes which makes it look much better than before.
  • Included psd files: in the designs directory you can find a psd file for making your own logo based on the current one and a slices.psd file containing a sliced layout with all images used in the theme. In the designs/psd directory you can find psd's of the layout elements and layouts. I only included 4 because these files are quite big.

You can find everything about the deco theme on the project page:

There's also a demo available here:

There's an official release available which you can use with a Drupal 6 installation. You'll also find an included README.txt file which describes the features of the theme and how you can customize it.

Unfortunately the SoC release won't include color.module support. As explained earlier color.module will need some patching to support this theme. I'll be working on a patch the following weeks so hopefully color.module can be supported ASAP.

Of course the end of SoC doesn't mean the end of this theme. I'll continue the development, so everyone is welcome to report bugs or request features. I also plan to introduce Drupal 5 support the following weeks so it can be used and tested in a more stable environment.

I want to thank my mentors and the community for helping me with this project and giving some nice insights, suggestions and support. This SoC was really great experience and a nice introduction to how an open source project works :-)
