Let's have a meeting

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I enjoyed talking with several of you at Patrick Lee's Drupal presentation this evening, and I think it would be interesting for us to get together sometime later this month for Drupal "show and tell".

... no formal agenda -- just meet somewhere with Internet access for a couple hours so we can show each other some of the things we've been working on and get better acquainted as a group.

Anyone know a good place for this type of meeting?

Yeah, it was a fun meetup,

Yeah, it was a fun meetup, and I'm hoping we can get Patrick involved over here...

We've had previous discussion of meeting venues and seemed to reach something of a conclusion at http://groups.drupal.org/node/5393#comment-16241 . The Library Coffeehouse in Meridian. What if we tried for Monday, Oct. 1st in the evening? If that date/time seems to work for folks, one of us ought to contact the venue about space, in case they need to know.

First Monday no good

FWIW: I have a regularly scheduled meeting on the first and third Monday of every month, so I wouldn't be able to make to a meetup on Oct 1st.

The other thing to consider is that we do need to reserve the room in advance, and a chosen night isn't always available. I'll either give them a call today or stop out there this weekend and see what is available and post back to the list.

room availability?

My evening schedule is pretty flexible, so scheduling based on room availability is fine for me.

October 1st would work for

chrisshattuck's picture

October 1st would work for me, however so would, say, the next day on Tuesday the 2nd. The 3rd I've got booked.

The PHP meetup was really good, I'm acutually really looking forward to the next one. And not just because I won the raffle. We had 15 people there, including a couple of Drupalites (of which Johnathan was one) who weren't in this group.

Here's the presentation format I mentioned at the meeting, its called Pecha Kucha:

If we were going to present some of our goods, we could follow this format to keep everything moving forward, and reduce the risk of any one presenter taking too much time. There's something to be said for a full-on presentation, too, but this way we'd at least get a good chance to cross-pollinate.

Meeting room availability

I finally got through to the Library Coffee house (sometimes the regular job just gets in the way).

The first week of October the room is currently available every evening except Wednesday.

The second week Tue. & Wed. evenings are taken.

As I mentioned, I'm tied up on the 1st, but so far I'm open the any other day.

Let me know what works for everybody else and I'll reserve the room.

Tuesday Oct 2, 6:30PM?

Chris mentioned Oct 2nd and it looks like that would work for dwight and me as well.

Can we plan to meet at 6:30PM?

JM

That would work for me.

I've reserved the meeting room at The Library Coffeehouse in Meridian for Oct. 2 at 6:30PM. See you all there.

Been busy and the discussion

mlsamuelson's picture

Been busy and the discussion of dates slipped by me. Oct. 2 isn't a great night for me, but I'll make every attempt to be there. In fact, unless I follow-up on this thread saying otherwise, I'll be there.

I think it's advisable to have a structure of sorts for these things, so, here's a proposed agenda:

  1. Introductions
  2. Discussion about this group
    • what we want this group to be/do
    • when we want to meet
    • lessons learned/best practices from other meetups
    • etc.
  3. Impromptu presentation(s), if time allows. (I have a few things I can share.)
  4. General discussion

Thanks / Agenda

Thanks for arranging the room, Dwight :)

At this stage, I'm primarily interested in getting to know other users in the area and seeing a little of what we're doing with Drupal. Perhaps we can do some of this under items 1 and 3 in Michael's proposed agenda.

I look forward to seeing you all on 10/2.

Great meetup tonight. It

mlsamuelson's picture

Great meetup tonight.

It looks like we all have something to teach each other. I'm looking forward to future meetings.

A short recap:

We all introduced ourselves and our experiences using Drupal and what we hoped to get out of/contribute to the Boise Drupal User Group (B-DUG?), and then we did a round-robin of sorts where each person took 15-25 minutes to show Drupal work we've been up to, and inform others about modules we'd either created for projects, or contributed modules that we'd utilized which the others may not know about.

Sharing experiences with modules was something everyone seemed to find beneficial, and so perhaps we can include a "module roundup" of sorts at future meetups. It cab help folks grasp difficult to comprehend modules or interactions between multiple modules (such as using views, cck, imagefield and imagecache in concert to create an interactive gallery on a site) when someone does a demo... or it can simply be informative. I, for instance had no clue about the wealth of info available via Google Analytics...

Great meeting. I'm looking forward to more of them...
