The reason I'm asking is because if most people are running the archive on the same site I'd like to simplify the module and get rid of the remote feature.

I'm quite interested to set this up though, as in the UK we're required to record ALL our output and keep it for a month so potential complaints can be investigated.

Ideally, I'd want to simply set a machine up in the studio to run an install of drupal dedicated to this. But can the archive module read a line audio input rather than a webstream?

you could probably do it that way. though if you stream your site you might as well use that.

We used our machine in the studio to do a webstream and run our archive; it simply connected to localhost and recorded from its own webstream. It's perfectly doable.
