December Sydney Meet-up

Start:

2007-12-13 20:00 - 22:00 Australia/Sydney

It seems like a lot of people want a December meet-up and I am happy to try to secure the same venue, NSW Sports Club, for Thursday, 13 December. Wednesday night is the night of the Web Blast so we'll make it Thursday this month, although the majority who responded to the poll wish the meeting to be on Wednesday's.

If you wish to volunteer to make a presentation, please comment here.

Dennis, do we have a projector for Ivan to use? I'm assuming Ivan will use his own laptop, or is that something that needs to be coordinated as well?

Unfortunately, there is no projector available. I am looking for other facilities but I haven't come up with anything yet. If anyone can find something else it would be great.

Hey Dennis,

I've never been to this place before, so I'm curious if there is the room would even be suitable for a small presentation. For example, some chairs and an empty/white wall. I might be able to borrow a portable projector, but I'm not confident so it would be best if someone else could secure one. I also ask because if Ivan isn't going to do it (he hasn't responded yet i think) and if there isn't a good place to do a presentation, then maybe we shouldn't pursue this too hard. Though I sincerely hope we get something like this started.

The room is comfortable and accommodates 12 people at the most. It is the board room for the club but I don't recall if there was a whiteboard. There is a wall. I might be in the CBD Wednesday so I can check it out in advance and I will be calling them tomorrow.

The room itself is fine for presentations to small groups. I think there was a flipchart which will suffice instead of a whiteboard. ~~Anyone able to procure a projector?~~ Just read that Ivan is able to bring a projector: http://groups.drupal.org/node/7180#comment-22660.

Beginners or more advanced users?

Am a 1st-time drupal user, and would like to come along, listen & learn, but I won't want to be too out of my depth. Is it ok for a newbie to pop along or is it geared more to the pros?

I'm sure it will be okay if you just turn up. There's no formal registration process. Dennis has organised this so, ultimately, it's up to him, but I expect seeing your post here will allow the 'expected number of attendees' to be incremented.

As a pretty much complete beginner, I'd appreciate an introduction to Views and Events module(s). I understand this is probably a little too simplistic for most of the other attendees though.

The Sports Club is on Hunter St, just 50m or so down from George St, very close to Wynyard station.

It's great there are going to be people there in spite of the so-called Christmas craziness. I am looking forward to the presentation, thought it may be beyond my mortal skills.

i can get a projector for the night (Its not the best projector in the world but it'll do) so if anyone else wants to do a presentation just being your notebook.

Dennis, would it be possible to use a screen? or we could just use a wall.
