Start:
2007-12-12 18:00 - 20:00 US/Pacific At this point the topic is still up for grabs. If you or your company would like to show off a module or website you developed please post a comment.
We'll be at the Bus Project for the meeting and then if there's demand, we can step across the street to Produce Row. See the Google Map for directions to both locations.
Projector needed! The Bus Project's projector will be in use. Does anyone have one that we can use? BenK came through with one for us.
I've attached a .zip file with the module we developed during the meeting.

hello
Well I've been working on the local free school site for quite a while now, and more recently on KBOO radio's site, but haven't been able to make a meeting yet, but I'm going to try and make this one.
merge with the Portland Coders December Bash?
I'm kind of thinking it might be nice to merge this meeting in with the Portland Coders December Bash that's going on the day before... how's everyone else feel about that?
I'm all for it. It seems
I'm all for it. It seems like a great event and a fine opportunity to cross-pollinate.

I'd prefer seperate meetings...
While the Portland Coders Bash sounds like a nice event, it seems like it's more a social gathering. I'd rather keep the Drupal event separate so that we could focus on specific Drupal issues, ideas, and concepts. This way, those who want to go to both events could get the best of both worlds.
Just my two cents,
Ben
You make a good point. On
You make a good point. On further reflection the other event is really mostly a coders event and this is good only for some Drupal folks, as we are a mixed bunch.
If we do meet I'll be there and I'd personally still like to see a, "So you want to create your own module," talk by some of our more advanced guys. Someone I know created their own module by cloning another, and they were not a coder themselves. I think taking Drupal to the next level requires this and I'd like to see what folks have to say on the matter. My 2c.

excellent topic
i'm all about that topic. it'd be good to brain storm some ideas for simple modules, perhaps adding a node type or a block... it's not easy to thing of something simple that you can't do with views + cck ;)
Simple Module Idea: CSS Changer Block
I, too, like the idea of actually making a real module during the December meeting. That would be informative, practical, and fun.
Here's an idea for a simple (I think) module that would actually be useful: How about a "CSS Changer Block" module that displays a block for each content type and allows the user to choose a different CSS style sheet from a dropdown menu.
Using this module, you could give users the power to make text larger, format the page differently, change the color scheme, get rid of images, etc. (with a different set of stylesheets available for each content type).
What do you guys think?
This sounds like an
This sounds like an excellent idea! That sort of module sounds straightforward and would probably be easy to understand and easy enough to code during a single meeting.
I've been wanting to learn how to make a module for some time now, but haven't made the time to teach myself, yet. I'm so excited that other people want to cover this topic!
steps
I've spent a few minutes doing a little research and outlining the contours of the project.
How to Build a Module / See you Tonight (Wednesday, Dec. 12)
Hey Andrew,
Thanks for doing some research on the steps necessary to build a "CSS Changer Block" module. That's really helpful and gives us a great start for tonight's meeting.
For those who don't know, we will actually be building this particular module (as an instructive demo of how to build a module) tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the Bus Project offices. Don't miss this meeting!
Cheers,
Ben
Thanks so much. Your

Hello Everyone - my name is Brian
I just wanted to drop a line and say hello - I would also be very interested in this hands on module development.
So are there regular Drupal Interest Meetings every 2nd Wednesday of the month (baesd on the above comments)? I just recently started attending the PHPDPX group that meets at cube space and I really enjoy them - I have met some great folks and learned a lot too.
I have been working with Drupal for a few years now - but I have a lot to learn in this framework - I could really use your help.
Is this group open to the public - do I need to register anywhere to join? - If so - let me know.
Many Thanks,
come on down
no need to register, just come on down. it's free to all so hopefully we'll see you next month.
about coming on down...
so i am still a little bit confused. is the december meeting going to be tuesday (tonight) at the coders bash? or is it tomorrow at bus project office? as a bonus, can someone tell me the time for this. seems like there should, you know, just be a definitive page/calendar for this sorta thing. just sayin. haha
hope to see some of you ... somewhere.
thanks!

PDX Drupal Meeting Tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 12), 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Hey Portland Drupalers,
Just a friendly reminder that our December meeting will be held tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 12) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bus Project offices.
On the agenda is "How to Build a Drupal Module."
(I think the general consensus was to have the meeting at our regularly scheduled time and place. Those who wish to attend the Portland Coders bash the day before can choose to do so.)
I will definitely be there and I hope to see all of you, too. Let's make it the biggest and best Portland Drupal meeting ever!

Projector needed!
I checked with the Bus Project this morning to see if we'd be able to use their projector and it looks like it won't be available. Does anyone else have one they could bring?
Found a Projector!
Hey Andrew,
I just made a phone call and tracked down a projector that we can borrow for the meeting. So we're all good. I'll bring the projector with me tonight.
See you there!

Bus Project party and holiday goodness
Thanks for the couple minutes at the launch of the meeting.
I forgot the punchline / best part about the Jan 12 Rebooting Democracy party - if you give $10 or more to the Bus through the Give Guide, you get in free. If you give $25 or more, Willamette Week also sends you a basket of goodies, including a ~$20 haircut at Bishops and $17.50 in Tri-met tix.

Give Guide - donate here
And, just because it's the season... if you're filing taxes in Oregon this year, you can give $50 to the political wing of the Bus for free because of the Oregon Political Tax Credit. Not a deduction, a full-on credit. Details and donation link here (this really helps the BusPAC keep our lights on, and doesn't actually cost you anything).
In lieu of a signup sheet, just hit me with a reply if you'd like to hear about other fun crud we have coming up (like our monthly debate series that we hold in a nearby pub).
Cheers and thanks,
Garrett
