Introducing Yourself

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I will kick off the introductions with a rather short post breaking the ice and introducing myself. My name is Matt Westlake, and I am an 18 yo student from Adelaide, Australia. I am currently nearing the end of my High School examinations. I have been lurking around the Drupal Project for around 2 years, but tend to play around in the theming arena. I plan to use GHOP to do more work in module building.
My Goals and projects of choice for GHOP are as follows

Make the "bluemarine" theme in Drupal core recolorable
Port API module to Drupal 6

I will aim to flesh out these projects over the coming days.

Introducing Myself

corsix's picture

My name is Peter Cawley, and I am a 16 year-old student from England. I'm looking to complete some code tasks for the Drupal GHOP, as programming is my strong point. http://www.corsix.org/portfolio/ lists my current education and two programming projects I've done recently:

I haven't used Drupal before or been part of its community, but I do have experience with PHP; I've submitted bugfixes to the Tarski wordpress theme, and http://www.corsix.org/ runs a homemade CMS written in PHP.

Anyway, one code monkey here looking for code tasks :)

Hello,I'm a 17 year old

Ron Williams's picture

Hello,
I'm a 17 year old high school student. I've previously ported themes from CSS/HTML to drupal phptemplate themes. I have used CCK, views, and the vote up/down module (and modules which it requires) extensively. Presently I've found freelance work through the paid services forum to pay more than what is offered by the GHOP initiative, however the addition to my resume and the possibility of a grand prize interests me.

Well I'm very interested, I've already selected one item I'd like to complete, however I have an issue. According to the rules section "5. I have already been working with one of the open source projects; am I allowed to work on their tasks for the contest?",

"As long as you or a family member do not hold an official position in the open source project, such as core developer or documentation working group member"

I do have privelages to switch between full html and filtered html, this was caused by steven peck (I believe that's his name, if not, his IRC name is sepeck) giving me these permissions due to my contribution of documentation.

So I guess my question is, what is my user roll, and does holding this roll make me part of any "documentation working group" we may have?

I think you're fine to work on this

About the only real "official" positions would be within the Drupal Association -- the fact that you are familiar with the project is a good thing :)

Is this your work? If so, very nicely done.

I look forward to seeing the work you do with GHOP --

Cheers,

Bill

Great!

That is my work, along with this, this, and this.

Thanks for your compliment!

Hi!

mbossino's picture

I am a 16 year old British secondary school ("high school" to Americans!) students with a strong interest in programming, Open Source software and technology in general. I have extensive experience with PHP, XHTML and CSS, having coded many websites in these languages in the past and contributing frequently to Open Source projects in any way possible, whether by writing documentation, extending the codebase or helping with QA.

Drupal is a very exciting project and I feel that I will greatly enjoy helping out and contributing wherever I can. The GHOP programme definitely makes this process easier, so I will be on the lookout for new and challenging tasks as they are made available on Drupal's GHOP issue tracking page!

I look forward to working with Drupal's community and hope that both of us will benefit from the experience. :)

Cheers,

Hi

dawehner's picture

I am a 18 year old German student on Gymnasium(perhaps high school in Americ :) ) interested in different kinds of opensource, or as I would say it Free-Software. I first had contact with html + frames and tables in informatics in school 5 years ago.

So I worked until 1 year with Joomla , but it was too unflexibel etc. and then i first tested Drupal, WOW it rocks! API, CCK Views etc.
I would like to take more part in the worldwide Drupal, not only the German one.

I hope there are some things i could do, whats with f.e. documentation on the German Drupal Side

My skills: XHTML CSS ,PHP , Module development and the 3 Great Modules!

Three great modules? Which are those? :-) (Views, CCK, and...?)

If you're interested in German translations (the non-English Drupal sites aren't well maintained, AFAIK), I believe there are a couple of tasks relating to translating install guides or screencasts into some non-English language. If you're able of doing full-stack work, then you'll have you pick of tasks, it looks like.

Welcome to Drupal!

Panels! There are quite a

Panels!
There are quite a lot of InstallGuides, f.e. the hole Cookbook is translated into German, and also some Videos, but i think there are yet no videos about the Three Great Modules, or building a Community site.

another suggestion is to build some InstallProfiles, f.e. cck, views with perhaps German translation

And I appreciate that

And I certainly appreciate the Cookbook being translated. I consider it an honor.

Hi there

marco.robotangel's picture

Hello,

my name is Marco and I'm from a quite small village near Cologne (Germany, NRW).
I still go to school (a "Gymnasium", too, Wikipedia says it's like an "college preparatory high school" in the US ;-)), visiting a 10th grade.

I don't have any Drupal-experience yet, so I'll start working on documentation and usability stuff while I'll read myself a bit through Drupal's code and APIs (already checked out the Drupal 6 CVS-HEAD with Eclipse). Would be nice if there were some more translating-tasks, cause I probably won't be in the code and all those APIs until the contest ends, but I promise to continue contributing to Drupal ;-)

Have a nice day :-)

Hello

cwgordon7's picture

I'm a 15 year old high school student. I have extensive experience with Drupal, and have written modules and contributed them to Drupal previously. I hope to increase my knowledge of Drupal by attempting as many tasks as I possibly can! Excited to be contributing to this project, and good luck to everyone!

Hi

OK, GHOP is nearly over, and I missed this thread...
I'm Cornelius from Germany (~1hour near Stuttgart). I am visiting a Gymnasium, too, in 9th Grade. I'm 14 years old, In March i'll have my next birthday. I came to GHOP from a heise.de-news, and it sounded interesting, especially the money part :D I have done 2 tasks till now, the third is in reviewing. My mainly interests are programming (PHP,C), reverse enginereing (Intel ASM), Chen Taiji, math, music (playing 3 instruments with lessons), don't remeber more. As of now, i've found some interesting performance things in Drupal 6 :P
