Eric will be managing the session. Gus set up the room, thanks!

1) We're continuing the brainstorm of the competency list.
2) Look again at survey, maybe turn into analysis tasks, people can pick a part to analyse.
3) How are we going to communicate these outcomes to the community?

Description - Short narrative about the

eric_sea's picture

As promised, I have established location in the Drupal Dojo to help facilitate the next steps in Defining Drupal Competencies.

In order to support the next phase of this work I established:

As a way of facilitating the next step that we discussed, I opened a case to Draft Technical Specification for Content Types necessary to frame Drupal Learning Taxonomy.

Once defined the content type would be added to drupalkata.com where we would also construct pages for the community to review, add, edit and delete items from a database of Drupal competencies.

For those questioning the rational behind this move, I posted What is this site 'DrupalKata.com' and Why is work on the Drupal Dojo being done here?.

We may be duplicating efforts

heather's picture

We may be duplicating efforts of others in the community. We need to find out what other existing efforts there are.

There are a number of efforts related to d.o redesign which are cataloguing the documentation and what's missing.

Also see:
http://drupal.org/node/549160

D4d designers are working on similar goals, we're making an inventory of things frontenders run into / need to learn when starting out with Drupal.
- initial list: http://project.designfordrupal.org/org/node/68
- first proposal for how to group these topics: http://project.designfordrupal.org/org/node/62

There's no point in duplicating efforts. However, those links are dead. I'm trying to find out what that was.

What is the best way to find out what people are doing in this area?

BTW- Is anyone else going to DrupalCon in Copenhagen?

Good Point

But my comment from the Peanut Gallery is that there is a clear difference between documentation and training. Very different things imo.

Of course that doesn't invalidate the point about overlap.

Peter, I think the work done so far puts you in the front row -

Also serves as an example of this group laying the groundwork for open source curriculum by seeking out points of overlap and collaboration with others.

shared taxonomies

johnbarclay's picture

Using the same vocabularies across drupal projects is also somthing to look toward. A lot of content development is simply tagging and without shared vocabularies taxonomy driven navigation will not work well on drupal.org

Definitely should look for points of overlap

gusaus's picture

We should definitely look for points of overlap and collaborate on larger efforts. Otherwise, the results won't come close to the initial ambition of what usually is a small group w/ little time and resources. That said, it looks like this (GDO) group has set some reachable goals and is already seeking out/joining up with complimentary community initiatives such as Drupal Dojo and others listed here -

detailed competency requirements ready for comment

idcm's picture

I have posted two somewhat detailed descriptions associated with the competency repository and module. They are based on discussions we have had and obviously some of my own insights. So, do we all think this is enough detail to share with other learning groups to see if this is something they have been interested in or may already be doing?

http://drupalkata.com/curriculum/node/717#comment-621 - mapping module

I am going to walk thru them with gusaus today at 2:00. if you have any thoughts on what i have posted on kata, please jump in.
