Hi,
I have an experimental e-commerce site that I am developing and I have a huge inventory of items I need to add. Over 200 products and descriptions. Is there a quick method to use with e-commerce to add items to the site though some form of XML formatted file or something that already exists (some module I can use), or am I going to have to do it the hard way?
There are several subcategories for the items to make browsing for an item easy. For example:
-T-shirts
---- Humor
-------- Animal Humor
-------- Other Humor
---- Political
------- Democrat
------- Republican
---- Inspirational
-------- insp1
-------- insp2
- Shorts

I think you get the idea. Any pointers? I am still learning my way around the modules and the idea of individually adding 200 modules and their descriptions is a daunting task for one person.

Scaling up e-Commerce

200? Are you sure you don't mean something like 200.000 or what?

For www.boekenwebsite.nl we've created custom import functions to convert a osCommerce database of 10.000 products and categories. At the moment the site has grown to 15.000 products (entered by hand) and Drupal/e-Commerce hold up just fine. In my experience the way to go is to create your own import functions customized to your needs. Other than that there a couple of node import/export modules on drupal.org available.

If you're still just evaluating e-commerce and aren't up to writing the code, Ubercart has an import module that accepts product XML files and will even build them into catalog categories like you're requesting. Worth a look if you're still on the fence. : )
