Drupal for Law Enforcement

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I just finished completing an intranet site for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, located in Florida.

We are using Drupal to collect intelligence, communicate with personnel instantly, and keep track of daily activities. Our county is divided into five main geographical areas spread over seventy-two miles.

I made a brief write-up here: http://www.radarearth.com/content/brevard-county-sheriffs-office-uses-dr...

Has anyone else in the group done any law enforcement work? I had considered a group specific to law enforcement, but I wasn't sure if there would be enough interest. I'm curious to hear what others have encountered due to the unique needs of law enforcement.

Our use of Drupal's social features will hopefully increase our effectiveness.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol switched to Drupal today. It was developed by North Dakota Government's Information Technology Department (ITD). We're pushing Drupal for all new build and redesign projects.

The site looks great. Were there any hurdles in training your users on using the new system?

Colorado Department of Corrections

In June, the Colorado Department of Corrections rolled out their new Drupal site. Monarch Digital designed and developed the site and worked with their Business Technology personnel through implementation. Some interesting features include:

  • Wardens and Facility Information Officers can add facility alerts that immediately appear on the home page.
  • The public can subscribe to Twitter feeds of these facility alerts along with news alerts.
  • The Drupal site interfaces to a proprietary inmate lookup system.
  • Extensive searchable pdf's of administrative regulations are available to the general public. These AR's are maintained by non-technical personnel.
  • A low-maintenance contact system minimizes specialized forms to contact personnel.

Although not visible to the public, the Colorado DOC is implementing an extensive Drupal intranet that interfaces to a wide variety of propriety legacy databases, external systems and single login LDAP authentication.

Hopefully, we'll get a more detailed blog post on our site once we have the time. In the meantime, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
