A session at DrupalCon

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

We need to give a session at DrupalCon to discuss what we come up with for everyone who did follow this group or our blog posts. It can be one person giving a presentation, a panel with a subset of us (not 8-10!) giving an intro and answering questions, or whatever, but something. I'd say the intended audience is other core and contrib developers; this should be an expert-level session.

And, as a member of the Drupalcon planning committee (along with Moshe), I suggest that we decide on the format and propose the session ASAP. We need session proposals to demonstrate the conference's value so people register to attend.

Suggestions?

Probably a panel.

Gabor, who along with Jeff Eaton are the Core and Community Track chairs, say: "It would probably be great to set up a panel at DrupalCon Boston to brainstorm some of this in a larger group and present what you come up with." I agree, and here's session proposal text. Comments?

Title: Data Architecture for Drupal 7

In February, several Drupal core developers held a Data Architecture Meetup in Chicago to discuss and design several important ideas around data architecture for Drupal 7, including node representation, fields in core, data API, data rendering, and database abstraction. In this panel session, we'll discuss what we came up with and brainstorm with the rest of the community.

This will be an expert-level session. To be able to participate fully, please read the Required Reading references and our meetup notes over at http://groups.drupal.org/data-architecture-minicon before the session.

Sounds great...

I'd like to see the agenda fleshed out a bit more by the actual session, but this'll be good as an interim proposal until we get that sorted out.

I like

Depending on whether we come up with a plan or ideas, this sounds good. It will probably start as a "here's what we've thought/done", followed by discussion. What the split is there will depend on what we've thought/done. Count me in.

Do we have a head count for who will be in Chicago? So far I know of Crell, chx, nedjo, moshe, Barry, and Karen, which is just about what the conference room holds. :-)

Session proposed

I proposed a Drupalcon session: http://boston2008.drupalcon.org/session/future-fields. It was difficult to decide what to say since at the moment we have reach few conclusions.

Session accepted.

Our session proposal has been accepted. From Gabor:

I am happy to inform you that your session on "The future of fields"
is accepted for the core and community track. The exact schedule will
be worked out soon. Please prepare a draft of your session for us to
review and blog about your session so that the good news is spread.
The lead conference organizers asked us to be strict about watching
for a February 25th deadline on *both of these* activities, and drop
sessions were these deadlines are not met, putting runner-ups in
place.

So now we just have to decide what to talk about! :-)

Is it a 45 minute session?

Is it a 45 minute session? We'll definitely need to set aside a Q&A time, so maybe 30 minutes of us talking about the big concepts we discussed and 15 minutes of Q&A?
