Looking to put together a show at a local club of all artists/musicians/bands who host their sites in Drupal. Call it DrupalCore Fest, or DrupalRox or something like that. I do not have a date, but have a potential space. Sometime in the fall, probably.
Or maybe you are a developer/designer who has built a site for a musician who could talk them into doing an event. Let me know! :)
My thought is to do this as part fund-raiser for the Drupal Association.
Reply if you are interested and the name of your project and site.
(And in full disclosure, yes, I have a project, too, that will play the event)

How 'bout funding a solution musicians could use?
As you know, I think it's a generally a great idea. Would be best (IMHO) to round up performers who both use and could benefit from having a D-based solution. I think proceeds from events/benefits would have more value to artists if went to building something they could use.
Dub put a great deal of time/energy into this - http://groups.drupal.org/node/21648 - if we could round up another rock star/developer to help drive this, I'd be down with helping make this happen.
Know anyone, PAT!?!?!

While not located in So Cal, I'm in Portland, OR and I work with a band from San Diego, TapWater. The band has an internal site I have set up for sharing recordings. I also use Drupal for a local social campaign, Fair Trade Music and for my audio recording service The Sun Time Recording Co. I would be interested in doing something similar in the Pacific Northwest if this works well.
@Gus: Would love to explore
@Gus: Would love to explore further, as we have done in the past. Right now, first things first: Find some Drupal-related bands/musicians and a venue, then take it from there.
@Drupal Musician: Great stuff! Would TapWater be interested in playing if they are able to come up from SD? May have a venue in North Orange County.
Count me in. I am a musician
Count me in. I am a musician in SoCal, and here is my music site.

Any larger goals for the events and sponsorships?
Would be great if RockDrupal could help facilitate building something we've talked about before. Is that part of the plan?

Not sure really. The profile project is a huge debate (at least it is for me, internally). For the start of this RockDrupal thing, our main goal is just to have an fun event, a social gathering, where maybe this could be discussed there.
My main goal is to pull off this first show and take it from there.

This sounds fun
I'd be interested in this. I'm building a band site this weekend in drupal and I'm a musician.
RockDrupal music event #1 - October 10, 2010
Some details now posted about the RockDrupal event: http://groups.drupal.org/node/92809
We want more musicians, not for the same night, but for our other RockDrupal nights. Hit up the event organizers for info.

I study Drupal and am a web
I study Drupal and am a web designer/developer and musician but am yet to create a fully functioning project in Drupal. Does that count?

Guys, i joined this as a
Guys,
i joined this as a discussion group but it's turning out to be actually about events and so closely related to what I do I feel I've gotta tell you:
I've started Musicosity to support live music events with free Drupal sites and marketing support for artists, funded through sponsorship.
http://musicosity.com is built completely in Drupal, and we run Virtual Sites off the platform so it can be rebranded for individual artists, venues, local circuits e.g. http://nsma.com or http://boardriderslive.com/
Beta launched in the UK, with Australia and US test sites running now - I haven't yet sorted out the .com and country thing - they're all independent databases and I'll need to change UK to .co.uk or set a country filter but here's US with just California data
http://us.musicosity.com
The sponsorship side is key however, and I've got someone potentially interested in getting US sponsorship.
So please let me know if this is useful as it may be a good opportunity to get funding for both events and to support ongoing development.
Mick
Awesome sites
Very cool sites - even better that you built them on Drupal! I didn't see it right away - do you/or are you planning to offer sites for artists, labels, venues, etc. and a way to plug into your network? It's that piece I'm interested in and possibly a point of overlap -

Not exactly sure if that's what Pat wants to do with these specific events, tho.
Gus Austin
That's the idea, yes
Cheers Gus - that's the idea, yes, on a common network using OG's for each "Audience" and Virtual sites for some customization.
It's very much focussed on live music, making it easy for consumers to discover Artists, and for Artists to build and manage audiences and drive gig attendances, funded through sponsorship.
I've followed your other threads, maybe we could continue there.
Discussion reset
As it's TBD if/how these 'Rock for Drupal' events will complement (I hope they do!), it makes sense to move the discussion as you suggest - http://groups.drupal.org/node/21648#comment-295454

Mick, Like what you are
Mick,
Like what you are doing. Would love to work with you in some way with RockDrupal. Not sure how yet, but let's keep talking! :)

Pat,
RockDrupal is a great idea - getting artists to work together as a fund raiser to help Drupal development for music.
You mentioned you have a project - let me know if I can help.

Pat talks about RockDrupal on LADrupalcast
Definitely worth a listen if you want to find out more about the RockDrupal events and the ideas/goals behind it - http://blip.tv/file/4148496/
Kinda like the idea of music shows funding development of tools that will help musicians. ;-)

what a wonderful idea
Gus -
I don't believe we met on tuesday downtown - but it was my first meetup, and I don't think it could have been a more perfect time for me to start.
I heard about RockDrupal and I got really excited for these reasons:
rock & web are my passion
A) Musician - Been playing, recording and touring for almost 10 years
B) Developer - New to drupal, background in Rich Media Development (flash/php/css)
C) Designer - MERCH - Got my start doing merch design for bands
D) Distribution - I've got a buddy who runs a Digital Distro, Placement & Licensing for Films & Commercial Works
I joined the group because all of this has lead to me starting a company for showcasing creativity through online collaboration.
I was hesitant to using drupal as a platform at first - but after speaking with others, I was assured drupal would not only be a stable scalable platform, but would have a great community of friendly developers who are eager to reach out and help. they were sure right.
the company is called treeOp and our platform being launched is called: myMusicTree.com - for budding music, a stem storage & exchange network, a place where creativity grows on trees.
from a developers point of view we utilize drupal mainly for the following:
user login management -
uploading audio files -
creating dynamic playlists of audio files -
taxonomy relationship of audio files -
this information is fed via XML (custom module) into a Flash Player we developed which displays each track as a branch of a tree. Media files can then be streamed and downloaded via the tree.
We're committed to making this the absolute best experience it can be - from a developers point of view - but also from a musicians point of view, and most importantly, the Fan's point of view.
I'm looking forward to meeting at one of the upcoming events and learning more about drupals awesomeness
-keep up the rock

I'm in...
Wish I saw this sooner. I've built many sites in Drupal for musicians, including Sam Bush and Mary Gauthier (her previous site).
But there also a band in SoCal that is like no other - Matt Bunsen and the Burners - that also has a Drupal site. Maybe for the next one...

Just Finished My Drupal Site - Can create a group to discuss
Im in Orange County and would like to participate in the next event. Just finished setting up a site for musicians to find and collaborate with others players in their area.
I can create a group which will post to a map for members to discuss music and events.

Any other SoCal events on tap?
Word on the street is this was a fun time. Anything else planned in SoCal? I'm hoping to start up some events in the NW while spending some time in Seattle.
