This is a Wiki Page for design discussion for Webcomic module. This is for planning the 6.x port of the Webcomic module.
This is almost in a stub state, and you are welcome to contribute to this design brainstorming.
Background
The webcomic module was written for D4.7 and has not much evolved through the port to 5.x. Mostly, it has just tried to cling on to what it had been doing.
Here is a crude note of the underlying schema of Webcomic module:
The data structure that sits on this schema is something like this: Storyline > Episode > Strip
Storyline contains one or more Episodes.
Episode contains one or more Strips.
(Or should it be zero or more?)
Presently, it has dependency on the Image module and Views module. The Image module is used to handle the image upload and thumbnail creation. The Views module is used to provide the Strip listing.
Features
- Maintain bios of every recurring character, listing them on a 'cast' page
- Organize strips by publish date, strip number, issue/episode, storyline, etc
- Scheduled publishing of individual strips and entire issues
- A convenient 'in-story timestamp' for each strip, to maintain continuity
needs to be expanded. This is a preliminary list I got from the current project page. It would be good if we could get them down to specifics.
Changes
Some questions to get the ball rolling.
- Do we make use of other modules in order to provide a robust webcomic system?
- For example, for having the different content types, could we use the CCK module?
- Would using other modules, hinder the stability of the module?
- Should we redesign the data structure?
